In this tutorial I will demonstrate the basic use of the Spell Check. It is a fairly simple process, and should only take a few minutes to learn.

The Spell Check is available when posting a new topic, a reply to a topic, a new poll, and while composing PMs.

The button has been moved, and is now located directly under the large text box into which you enter your post/message.

When you are done composing your post, click the Spell Check button. A new window will open on your computer containing the Spell Check that looks like this:

When the new window opens, you will see your text on the left side, and the Spell Check controls on the right.

If you have no misspelled words, there will be a little box that reads, "No misspellings found" and an OK button. In that case, click OK to close the window.

If the Spell Check does find misspelled words, you'll get a whole bunch of buttons (like in the above screenshot).

As an example, let's say that there was an M and a T left out on the word "committee" like in the above screenshot.

The misspelled word is highlighted in red on the left side of the screen, and the misspelled is placed into the Word Correction box.

The Word Correction box is where you can manually make changes to your word. If you were to add a T and an M and hit the Replace button, the correctly spelled word would be copied back to the text on the left, and spell check would move on to the next misspelled word.

Let's look at the spell check's four suggested words:
comate
comity
committee
comte

There are two ways change the incorrect word to one of the suggested words. Either:

1. Click the word "committee" and then click Replace.
-or-
2. Double-click the word "committee"

The word will be replaced on the left side of the screen, and the Spell Check will move on to the next misspelled word.

Like other Spell Checks, you can hit ALL next to Replace and replace all occurrences of that particular misspelled word in your entire post.

The Ignore button, obviously, will ignore the misspelling and move to the next. The ALL button will ignore all occurrences of the word for the remainder of your post.

The Learn feature looks to be a very nice feature. It allows you to add words to the dictionary so they aren't flagged as misspelled. I believe this works with cookies, so if you clear your cookies, you lose your dictionary. sad.gif

The Suggest feature will apparently generate a more in depth list of suggested words, although I haven't noticed any changes after clicking it.

Clicking Define or Thesaurus will open a new window on your computer containing Merriam Webster's definition or a list of synonyms.

Once the spell check has gone through all of the misspelled words, simply hit "OK" and your post will be replaced with the corrected text.

It just takes a few seconds of your time and it adds VOLUMES to your credibility.
