As of the last two days or so, I've been bewitched, bothered, and bewildered by Fiona Apple's version of "Why Try To Change Me Now?". I'm almost pretty sure that I'm almost ready to decide that I almost like her version of it better than Frank Sinatra's. ... Aw, heck. Enough pussyfooting. 'Far as I'm concerned, hers blows Frank's version away. So, without further ados, ... Here she is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8uf1n1wUfxEAnyways, ... Question(s): Have you been "obsessing" about any songs lately? If so, care to share?

QUOTE(akaCG @ Sep 15 2012, 11:39 PM) Anna Netrebko, singing "Meine Lippen, sie küssen so heiß" (English, rough translation: "My lips, they kiss so hotly"): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tUq8Q_b8Lg That's not my kind of music - at all - but I couldn't stop watching the performance. ************************** I recently downloaded Paul McCartney's Ram, plus Wingspan, a few weeks back when Amazon was putting his stuff on sale. My older sister had Too Many People/Uncle Albert Admiral Halsey on an Apple 45 rpm, and that was one of the few records I had to listen to as a kid. Those are two of the songs that bring me back in time. The old McCartney stuff really has a nice Beatles vibe to it, but unlike Beatles music I hadn't heard it a hundred times, so it was a nice find after all these years.

A friend emailed me ... Carly Rose Sonenclar, doing "Feeling Good": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAJyoiQEQco...layer_embedded#! No match for Nina Simone's version, of course. A bit hard to imagine that anyone could get there. But she's got time to at least try to get close. After all, she's only ... 13. Enjoy.

Recently I have been enjoying my mellower Pandora Stations. I think that Brandi Carlile and the Civil Wars (oddly they broke up) are very strong musical acts. The former draws me in and makes me listen to her style of singing and I find myself drawn into the lyrics by her unique style. The Civil Wars have a transfixing style of singing that draws me in and I never know or care what the lyrics are doing. Christina Perri is running right now. I find her to have a strong pop personality that is dramatic but of substance. I wanted to dismiss her as a one hit wonder pop star, but I find myself stopping and listening carefully with many of her tracks and now I root for a series of tracks to come out in future months and years. I don;t really know what it is about Birdy, but her singing voice haunts me and lingers for hours when I hear one of her tracks.

This came across my radar: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a39V_15n_GcIt's a bit long, but you get a lot of treats if you like really good guitar players (and of course the other musicians). You can see and hear James Taylor try to sing the blues. That funny guy playing guitar with him? Oh yeah, he's that burnout who actually defined rock for a generation of late baby boomers. Walsh something. Guess you do have to be pretty old to recognize all the players. Some of the really old blues guys I had not heard about, maybe a name dropped here and there. Good roots stuff. Clapton is always around, except when he isn't and isn't needed. That was nice. Guess he arranged the whole deal. Man, what a thing, eh? Made me stick all my pride into a tiny little box; who can possibly play like that effortlessly (yeah, I know, twenty-plus-plus years of effort behind it)? I've got a few tunes left over to get lost in. That's still good. But how personal is it that these people touch one note and immediately identify themselves? It's an astounding phenomenon.
