Due to his influence here at ad.gif and his string of wins in years past, I push for the Best Overall Debater award to be formally named the Wertz Award for Best Overall Debater. thumbsup.gif

That would add more class to an already coveted award.

I like the idea of a "Hall of Fame Award" with Wertz as a charter member better.

I like the "Hall of Fame" idea as well. I guess we just have to come up with some objective criteria by which to induct other members as well.

I like the "Hall of Fame" idea as well. I guess we just have to come up with some objective criteria by which to induct other members as well.

I have had this idea for sometime. I think the award should be named for Wertz, and he, Jaime and Mike - as co-founders - would be inducted by acclimation as charter members.

Then each year a set number, 1, 2, 3, 4 or whatever could be added.

As I invision this, future members would be nominated and voted on from a list of people who have contributed regularly over a periof of 4 to 5 years. Selection would be up to members, but things that might be taken into consideration would be debating ability, civility, starting successful threads and contributing to knowledge in casual conversation in such as the book and movie thread ane even the joke thread.

Barnaby once reacted to this idea by saying some of us took ourselves too seriously. That is partiallly true, but if we don't take ourselves somewhat seriously, how can we expect anyone else to do so.

Split the difference. The Wertz Memorial Hall of Fame. Halls of Fame are often named for their first member.

In this year's nominating process, the category best topic in the "Current Events & Headline News" seems to have been inadvertently omitted.

We've never had this category as an award. Because of the fluid nature of 'current' events, most topics don't stay in that forum long. They eventually get moved once they are no longer current, and become eligible for nomination.

Am I crazy or wasn't there a forum for YIR 08-09 reminders? A place where we could jot down stuff so that we could remember who to nominate? Am I missing it?
