About a month ago, on September 24, the Smithsonian's new African American History and Culture museum, dedicated to "Powerful moments in African American
history, culture, and community", opened its doors.

It didn't take long before some noticed that, among the 100,000 people represented/highlighted among its exhibits, for instance, our nation's 2nd African American Supreme Court Justice is ... absent. Nowhere to be found. Also missing: the very first African American elected (by popular vote) to the U.S. Senate, Edward Brooke (Republican). There are others, and what they generally have in common is, as you may have already guessed by now, their right-side-of-the-aisle/spectrum politics/ideology. For instance, you may wish to search the museum's website for, say, Condoleezza Rice (our nation's first African American National Security Advisor, as well as our nation's first African American Secretary of State), but it would be in vain.

When asked about this, the Smithsonian's chief spokesperson's explained:"[W]e cannot tell every story in our inaugural exhibitions."

Questions for debate:

1.
Is the above explanation credible? Why or why not?

2.
How does this reflect on the Smithsonian Institution? Please explain/elaborate.
