I don't get this Elvis stuff. I'm sick of hearing about all these people celebrating the anniversary of his birth, death, or first bowel movement.

Just to add salt to my Elvis induced wound, I found this story: Elvis Bust 'Weeps' in Dutch Town. Yes, folks, you read that right. Elvis is now weeping in the Netherlands (insert funny comment involving this story/the Dutch/legalized marijuana here) cool.gif

Not that I’m a big fan, but Elvis was a great example of what America is. Minus the whole going crazy part, shooting holes in walls, and eating fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches.
He was respectable, loved his mother, went to church, and when the nation needed him he joined the army. (even though he didn’t need to, and was making a but load of money) Elvis always made sure you knew he was an American, and he knew where his roots were. That I think is why his image has endured…but that’s just my take on it.

I agree with Jaime on this one. Elvis is dead. Get over it. I am in an age group which I grew up with the (quote) King. I found nothing he did that I would ever go out of my way for. There were alot of people who I think were so much better. They put him in the spotlight for what? He was a drug addict and overweight. That's who we were supposed to think of being the "King"? King of what? Of all his hits he only wrote 2. Someone said well he joined the army and he didn't have to. Well why not? He was an american! I don't know. Maybe I am off base on thing one. Let me know what you think and maybe you can change my way of thinking.

Jamie and I agree with this one. Elvis was a man, and a BAD one at that. Let him rest peacefully...in HELL/Iraq.

Hey, JP, I spell my name J-A-I-M-E, didn't you read "my namesake revived" post (somewhere here in Off the Subject)? tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif

What is interesting about Elvis is, whether or not we like him, he has endured. If Elvis is an embarrassment that has survived from momof3's generation, can you imagine the crap that will be played on oldies stations twenty years from now?

Eminem, Kid Rock, and Tupac. Uggh.
