Politics1.com is a great clearinghouse of election information. Here's an interesting tidbit about a possible GOP housecleaning party in Ohio next year. whistling.gif

QUOTE
US Senator Mike DeWine ( R ) was one of those GOP Senators who crafted the compromise responsible for killing Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist's so-called "nuclear option" to eliminate Senate filibusters of judicial nominees. So upset, in fact, that some are reportedly trying to urge former US House Budget Committee Chair John Kasich -- a ''00 Presidential candidate -- to make a primary challenge to DeWine next year. DeWine's stance could also have some negative fallout for his son, Pat DeWine, who is a GOP candidate for Congress in the crowded June 14 special election primary. Junior has already made a point of saying he thinks Dad was wrong for helping the Dems forge the compromise -- but some conservative primary voters still may seek revenge against Dad by voting against his kid.

Will Kasich take on DeWine? I don't think he will. The whole nuclear option issue isn't enough to beat a sitting senator in a primary.

Will DeWine be the GOP candidate for office in 2006?
Yes. For one, he's not a RINO, not even close. Take a quick look at Ontheissues.org

Mike DeWine's Record

Rated 0% by NARAL (a pro-choice organization)
Rated 16% by the LCV (pro- environment organization)
Rated 100% by the Christian Coalition (Christian organization, duh)
Rated 100% by CATO (pro- free trade organization)
Rated 0% by the AFL-CIO

The man just helped to make a compromise on a senate rule that a majority of people probably don't understand. That may anger some party activists, but for the average Joe Republican there isn't the same ire. And again it's not like DeWine has a record of being liberal.
