Recently I stumbled into an amazing collection of color photographs from early 20th century. Yes, that is true, even though black-and-white imagery was a dominating media all the way until 1950s-1960s, some color photography was done as early as 1906!
Library of Congress has an awesome
collection of color images made by Mr. Prokudin-Gorsky. He used a very unique (for the time)
technique to achieve the result - the subject would be photographed three times, each time with different color filter - Red, Green, and Blue. After that, three negatives would be combined at the lab, and voila!
These images are so strange to look at. It's like I am opened a window into the past, the window I never thought existed. Look at the photographs of
people working, of an
shiny locomotive, of some
architectural wonders, many of which perished during the revolution...
Nothing to debate here, just wanted to share this awesome collection with everyone interested.
