I remember we had a poll about this some time ago. I would like to see this happen.

Maybe a place where the hotel rates won't kill us. smile.gif

Anywhere it happens, count me in!

I would think Savannah, GA would be a natural place to have it given the owners of the site tongue.gif

Well my Toronto suggestion faired reasonably well before, so I see no reason not to bring it up again. We just successfully held a convention for 60,000 AA members... I'm sure we can handle the kool-aid drinking republicans and snooty french-wine drinking democrats from AD.

Barring that I nominate Buffalo. That town stinks; and I find that the lousier the surroundings, the more you have to get to know the company.

Hey, there are a LOT of worse locations than Buffalo. I nominate Fayetteville, NC or Sumter SC on that scale. tongue.gif

I just met Wertz recently in Orlando, and we were discussing this very subject! I think Savannah, GA is a good choice. Last time Vegas won, if memory serves. I'd like it to be Vegas, too, but we'll likely move in another 6 months and then it will be less convenient for us. I wouldn't mind Toronto, either. I've been there once (some of my relatives live in one of the Italian-Canadian neighbourhoods)and really liked it. Other ideas....Orlando would be great, and all of us with kiddos could send them to some fun Disney camp for the day! thumbsup.gif

Orlando would be a great place as I have lived there and still have friends there as well. Although I bet I can get some great discount rates at the casino hotels here. smile.gif

Why not have a camp out, and avoid paying hotel bills? Mind you I cant come, as I can only bike around the general westchester and fairfield county area.
CruisingRam
Any where it is held is a very long distance from me! LOL- Perhaps moif and I could have a contest to see who is farther away from the choice! LOL
Just Leave me Alone!
Mexico! Mexico! Mexico! No seriously, camping would be great - except for the fact that I have never actually met any of you. Spending the weekend in the dark woods with complete strangers just has B rated horror flick written all over it.

Well, since we seem to argue about the war so much, how about we meet in Iraq? Perhaps we could all come to a consensus...

What, are you scared? It'll be fun! mrsparkle.gif

Barring that, I think Dakar, Senegal would be nice. So would Durban, SA.

Of course, I can see the objections - this is America's Debate, after all. How about Washington, DC? Someplace with political meaning?

We could have some real live debates, and barring that, fist fights. flowers.gif

D.C. sounds like a great idea. We could hang out and take tours, see the sights and things. But I suppose it might be too far away for many members... ::shrug:: I know a lot of people like Vegas, which kind of bums me out because I'm under 21, and I think the first convention should be in a location where everyone would be able to be with the group. Barring either of these, I think Savannah is a fine location - and I could use any excuse to get back to the River Street candy shops! laugh.gif

How about Phoenix? It will reach a nice balmy 117 degrees here this week.
Lotsa fun watching flying birds burst into flames midair. We can wrap up some brisket in tinfoil and stick it up in the attic for a few hours for a nice BBQ.

Here where you:

you will no longer associate bridges (or rivers) with water.

will get to eat hot chilies to cool your mouth off.

you will learn that a seat belt makes a pretty good branding iron.

When the temperature drops below 95, you will feel a bit chilly.

Will give anything to be able to splash cold water on your face.

We just got through the hot and really hot seasons and have just entered "ARE YOU KIDDING ME??!! "

Will only use 2 fingers to drive your car, and discover that you can get a sunburn through your car window.

Will notice the best parking place is determined by shade instead of distance.

Our hot water comes out of both taps.

Here asphalt has a liquid state.

Downside: Your plane can be canceled because it is so hot it cannot get off the ground.

You will see that someone driving wearing oven mitts is a clever person.

And you are safe here because most homes have more firearms than people.

So come on AD'ers elect Arizona for our first convention.

I have to put a plug in for Michigan! Summer in Michigan is beautiful. We have the great lakes, and we could all meet in one of the cities on Lake Michigan or Ann Arbor. It wouldn't be very expensive either. Plus we have alot of ad.gif members close: Michigan residents, Ohio, Chicago etc.

If that is not possible, I think DC would be a great choice because it is pretty centrally located and there is lots of stuff to do-- and it is the political capital of the country (how a propos is that?).
SWM28WDC
I'll vote for DC.

Flights in can be pretty cheap, less than $150 round trip, Dulles is the Independence Air hub, and BWI has a lot of SouthWest and AmericaWest flights. Washington Reagan National is on the Metro System, but both other airports have easy and cheap connecting transportation.

Hotels might be more expensive, but there are cheaper alternatives in the suburbs, and, for those so inclined there are youth hostels available as well (or so I hear).
logophage
How about some place centrally located? Maybe, Denver? Kansas City? Chicago? I don't mind DC too much, however it's unpleasant during the summer; plus, the surrounding suburban blight is...well...blightful.
crashfourit
I would sugest somewhere near the geographic center of the lower 48; like somewhere in Kansas.

Or, how about Fayettevillle, AR? rolleyes.gif thumbsup.gif
deathalive
I say texas.. not just cause I live there.. But because it has great hotel rates, and Amarillo is readily accessible to all... whistling.gif
La Herring Rouge
I the crew were to meet in a large city they may as well throw caution to the wind and hit the Big Apple....

However, I would vote for something smaller and less..well, less expensive.

Perhaps we could meet up in Arkansas. Flights to Little Rock can't be astronomical and we could spend an afternoon debating in ole Bill's Library!

Eeyore
If you're going for central location and reasonable rates (with an urban environment) Nashville is a good place, and real accessible for me. I'm sure that's just a coincidence.
Artemise
Besides the obvious choice of Savannah to make it base point for Mike and Jaime, and the all too obvious choice of DC, where we could get in a good bit of 'heres where it all happens' and open huge debate, but pricey--how about Reno? Hotels are dirt cheap, charter flights are inexpensive countrywide and so would be convention room with loads of perks.
Summer or winter, it might be the least expensive and most diverse alternative spot.
Paladin Elspeth
I would recommend Chicago--big enough to be interesting, with art galleries, the Field Museum, an aquarium and a planetarium all world class, and GOOD FOOD! thumbsup.gif

(Plus, we drive through Chicago every three weeks anyway! blush.gif )
