I don't remember seeing this website discussed on ad.gif before so here goes:

Go here and take the test.

I realize how annoying the usual online tests can be but I think this one is different.
The creators have tried to do away with the traditional, two-dimensional way we tend to label our politics (ie. right---left)

The test, while not ridiculously complex, can still yield some intriguing results.
What's more you can compare your results to those of other famous political figures.

The score is charted on a traditional X-Y axis with Economic "left" and "right" on the X axis and Social authoritarian and libertarian on the Y axis.

I turned out at -2.88 X and -2.77 Y. So I am slightly into the left/libertarian quadrant.
That puts me shockingly close to Ghandi !!

My intended discussion is this:
Did you score on the test as you might have expected?

What figures from history did you find you were closest to politically?

Do you find identifying your political leanings in this way helpful or instructive in the way you debate here on Americas Debate?

I have seen this one here a couple of times- but they are old, so it deserves a re-do LOL thumbsup.gif

Did you score on the test as you might have expected?

Pretty much- Economic Left/Right: -1.88
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -3.95

What figures from history did you find you were closest to politically?

Ghandi

Do you find identifying your political leanings in this way helpful or instructive in the way you debate here on Americas Debate?

not really- though this one is not too bad- most quizes have a slant towards thier ideology- I think this one is libertarian- notice the sympathetic figure of Ghandi for those that score more libertarian, and those that score conservative are hitler and stalin LOL

As said, this has been here a few times before. It was fun to give it another try. smile.gif

No surprises for me. I tried to be more "moderate" on those questions on which I am not 100% certain. As many have pointed out, some of these questions have no good answer.

With that in mind, I got the answer I suspected:

Economic Left/Right: -1.50 (slightly to the left)
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -7.28 (very libertarian)

This is very accurate. I'm middle-of-the-road on economic stuff, super-liberal on social stuff.

I am closest to the Dalai Lama -- not bad company to keep. (By the way, folks who take this test should look all the way at the bottom of the page to see more names than just Stalin/Hitler/Thatcher/Friedman/Gandhi.)

Also, look at this page for the British political parties that match up with you:

Link

I match up nearly perfectly with the Greens. (No surprise.)

US Presidential Election:

Link

Closest to David Cobb/Ralph Nader, although I'm quite a bit more libertarian than either.

For the sake of completeness, here's Canada:

Link

No good match.

This kind of test is interesting, and helps me learn more about myself. This one doesn't seem to be particularly slanted one way or the other. (Compared to the "World's Shortest Political Test," which is clearly slanted to toward the Libertarian Party.)

EDIT: The links don't go directly to the relevant pages. Look at the bottom left of the menu page to find the links to UK, USA, and Canadian politics.

I like http://www.theadvocates.org/quiz.html a lot better. I like http://www.theadvocates.org/quiz.html a lot better. Some of the questions in the 6 page version are ridiculous and a bit bias. I guess that's to be expected on any type of test. Some of the question should have a "neutral" answer. I am a right leaning libertarian on the test I provided.

I was on the Right line just right of center on the test in this topic.

I am in the company of Victoria Silverwolf, CruisingRam, The Dalai Lama, and La Herring Rouge. A company to be proud of. flowers.gif
Just Leave me Alone!
Economic Left/Right: 0.38
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -0.67

Not really close to any major figures. This test has told me very little.
Bay State Rebel
Considerably farther left-libertarian than I expected, -0.63/-3.64. Nearest to Gandhi, or Nader.
aevans176
I was Economic Left/Right: 0.88 and Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -0.10. This put me more in line with Gerhard Schroder than anyone else. Frankly, I think that has everything to do with my views on social issues and their relationship to the gov't. For instance... I'm very anti-abortion religiously, but don't look for the gov't to eliminate it based upon my religious views.

Taking nemov's quiz, I scored;
LIBERTARIANS support maximum liberty in both personal and economic matters. They advocate a much smaller government; one that is limited to protecting individuals from coercion and violence. Libertarians tend to embrace individual responsibility, oppose government bureaucracy and taxes, promote private charity, tolerate diverse lifestyles, support the free market, and defend civil liberties.

This is probably more in line. I think the Schroder reference is slightly off... but either way a good look at our view points.

Shocker. I'm a hardcore free market, socially libertarian kinda guy.

I'm closest to Milton Friedman, libertarian economist extrodinaire.

Neither, I don't debate to fulfill my political compass stats, it's the other way around.

Economic Left/Right: -2.13
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -3.03

And I thought I'd be a "Hardcore Commie."

Now this is interesting - I've taken this test several times before, and been consistently about -5.00 on each axis. (i.e. Leftwing Libertarian) This time, I have come out as somewhat less libertarian (-4.46) but significantly more leftwing (-7.00).

I don't remember the quiz focusing quite so much on the role of the state in international matters last time around, so maybe my views on what states should or shouldn't do globally or regionally are more leftwing that on what they should concern themselves with internally? (Or, maybe the quiz is skewed in some way on these matters more than others?)

This seems to put me closer to Nelson Mandela than anyone else, which I can live with. In past attempts, I've been in more or less the same spot as the British political veteran Tony Benn, and I didn't mind that either.

If the test itself hasn't changed the way it measures things, I've become significantly more leftwing in the time I've been posting here on ad.gif

It is always nice to do a test about your political standings, but a lot of times the outcome can be to far fetched. I am Dutch, living in what a lot of people says to be one of the most liberal countries in Europe. If I compare our political rightwing parties with the Republicans in the U.S., our rightwing is almost as liberal as the Democrats. (In the eyes of a lot of Dutch people the Neocons, for example, are compared to the most extreme rightwing parties in Holland!) For myself, I have been brought up with the ideals of Socialism, especially the notion of solidarity was really important for my parents. But at the same time they warned me and my sister about the dangers of both extreme left ideals, like the communistic gouverments in the former USSR, China and North-Korea and extreme rightwing ideals. If I would place myself in the Dutch politics, one could say I am fairly leftwing, but also pragmatic.

The results of the test, -6.25 (economic left/right) and -4.72 (Social Libertarian/Authoritarian), weren't really a shock to me. But it is always nice if you are compared (politically) with persons like Nelson Mandela and the Dalai Lama. (By the way, two persons that I really admire!) mrsparkle.gif

For the last question: The outcome from the poll doesn't have a big impact in the way I debate here on America's debate. Every question, thesis or problem should be discussed with a open mind and a sense of rationale. It all depends on the arguments.

(4,4.76). The closest "famous person" to me was Margaret Thatcher.
deerjerkydave
Economic Left/Right: 7.13
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 1.79

I guess I strongly believe in free markets and a modest amount social authority. I'm ranked closest to wealthy Italian businessman/President Silvio_Berlusconi.

I like the concept of the political compass, but I disagree where they have placed some of the historic figures. For example, they put Hitler to the right claiming that his cosy relationship with corporations is what did it, as if corporate welfare is something right wing economists support.
