Jaime
I am opening this thread as a new place to keep notes on what we may consider for the Year In Review Awards for 2005-2006 (seems so far away doesn't it?)

My reminders:

Convincing Posts:
Overland Sailor's post in Accountability for New Orleans
and
turnea's post in How did we get here?

If you don't want to share your potential nominations publicly, you have the ability to keep notes in you Control Panel. Simply hit the My Controls link on the top right of your screen, and scroll down. Paste your reminder in the window and hit update. The notes won't be erased unless you erase them.

I’d like to nominate Moif for Most Convincing Post in the Muslim Anger in Europe thread. I feel he really exposed the root cause of an issue that has far reaching implications.

Well done!
Renger
What are the categories this year? And how do you vote?

I have never voted before on AD. blush.gif

QUOTE(Eeyore @ Dec 29 2005, 12:11 PM)
I think the greatest real threat to most Americans is the government.

Amen, Eeyore.

Possible nominee for 'Best Quotation by a Member'.
BoF
I nominate this line about Dick Cheney’s shotgun problems for best quotation by a member.

QUOTE(Lesly @ Feb 13 2006, 04:26 PM)
It’s the phallic symbol that matters Carlito, the phallic symbol!

not sure if we will have a 'best rebuttal' category, or perhaps some "fisking" type award, but a reminder to myself here - moif's post in the israel / palestine debate

Reminder: Most Convincing Post

Wertz in this thread:

Lesly
Lordy. Wertz is gonna win another award or two. My lazy self was waiting for someone to bump the thread on account of his post.

Best researched post: Libby points the finger at Cheney and Bush
Google
lederuvdapac
I nominate KivrotHataavah for his post on Mental Illness

Best Researched Post: Mental Illness

Can you also nominate it for most convincing?
Sleeper
Best post: Moif's post in the Iraqi Memos thread.
Wertz
For Best Quotation: DaytonRocker's "The Iraq war is a solution in search of a problem."
Mrs. Pigpen
Reminder to myself: Eeyore, Should Rumsfeld resign post. Very well done.
carlitoswhey
Best quotation by a member. Sometimes what strikes me as 'best quote' feels a little silly in this category, or maybe I'm just weird. We could have a best 'literary-style' quote by a member' - The Joe Wilson Literary Flair Award? flowers.gif

Wertz in 'what's going on at the CIA'

QUOTE(Wertz)
Incompetence? No. It was simply the result of inbreeding among the quail flushing classes.
Jaime
Thanks for bumping this up, carlitos. It reminded me to remind all of you that the ad.gif Year in Review 2005-2006 nominations will open on June 1st. We plan on having most of the same categories as last year and hopefully a few new ones. We are certainly open to (serious, constructive, you know the routine) suggestions on new award categories. Post them here or PM them to me.

Wertz, here, in the "Parents sue over gay family book to kindergartner, Appropriate?" thread.

A sober and reflective post that eloquently expresses the poster's views, which could quite justifiably have been far more indignant. (Righteously so, in my opinion.)
moif
I'd like to nominate Rengers thread Burqas, niqaabs, chadors, and Western societies. for best (international?) topic.

And if there is a 'most impressive' poster nomination, then my vote goes to the ever amazing Mrs P. smile.gif

Victoria Silverwolf
Best "Casual Conversation" Topic:

(Frankly, I thought it was too important and vital a topic to be "casual")

Talking to the dead

BoF
Nominations are usually for one person, but since they are a team, I would suggest Curmudgeon and Paladin Elspeth, as a couple, for the caterogy "Person[s] You'd Most Like to Meet."

Lesly's response to AmLord in the Should English be official language?, US official language Thread

QUOTE
On the other hand I would not react to foreigners waving the flags of their native homelands like they’re ready to walk into a café with explosives strapped to their chests. Let’s just ban St. Patrick’s Day and the Confederate flag, eh?
christopher
As AMLord was kind enough to remind me. i forgot to say for what Lesly deserves a Top spot.

Lesly's post should be for Best Quote.

or perhaps indeed "Most sharp tongued"

Gotta love it.
Eeyore
Do we have a category for best one-liner? If not best quote nominee from me.

QUOTE(moif @ May 26 2006, 09:27 AM)
In such situations, you are aware of the possibilities and the dangers, so why should others be penalized for your mistake in failing to plan ahead?

Because stupid people need to be protected from evil people.

Dontreadonme's quote in the debate about Fred Phlep's group to protest funerals.

QUOTE
If a family cannot grieve and mourn a fallen loved one for a few moments in relative peace, in the name of preserving freedom of speech, then are we as a society even still deserving of that right?

For best quote, this little jewel by Moif is priceless:

Because stupid people need to be protected from evil people. Source

whoopsie, looks like Eeyore beat me to it. blush.gif

I don't know if I am able to nominate this for Best Quote, but ill try because i just found it funny:

In Unemployment Rate Drops to 4.6%, Why is the press so negative? Jaime said this in her warning:

QUOTE(Jaime)
Everyone stop with the ad hominem attacks and belittling comments. If you can't keep it civil you will ruin the thread by forcing us to close it. Don't be a jerk.

I'm going to go ahead and close this topic since the nominations are now open. We'll start a new one for the 06-07 Year in Review Nominations in July. smile.gif
