I live in Illinois for those who don't know. Today I read in the paper about a group of Animals rights protestors who cuts the brake lines to 48 trucks, owned by a company known as Supreme Lobsters. Seems they wanted to liberate the lobsters and put them back in the ocean. I am so angry right now, that I am having a really hard time not going off. What are these people thinking? There were 48 trucks without brakes. Do you realize how many innocent people could of been killed because they wanted to liberate lobsters? I just find this mind boggling! Kill innocent people because of a damn lobster? There are other ways to show how they feel. It is a good thing that no one was hurt because they found after one truck tried to drive away it had no brakes and they checked out the rest of the trucks. Yeah liberate a lobster and kill people. You people disgust me. mad.gif mad.gif mad.gif mad.gif mad.gif

Momof3, I completely agree with you on this. I'm all for animal rights, but I think that there is an appropriate way to get out a message, and this is not it. This is a form of terrorism.
Momof3
Cyan that is exactly what they are calling it a domestic terrorism. I just thank God no one was hurt.

I think there are better ways to protest Animal Rights than cutting brake lines of Lobster trucks

Doing stuff like that & actually KILLING someone just hurts your cause because no one wants to be associated with a group that murders people for the cause (remind you of someone?) & it just labels that group as a bunch of criminals instead of heros

What dimwits. I agree, anytime protesters do so with violence they hurt their cause more than help it.

I am really craving lobster now. wink2.gif

Yeah, irks me beyond belief.

I'm all for conservation...to an extent...but not at the price of human lives/property

Last summer, some protestors decided to have a sit-in on a logging road. Fine.

But one night, someone firebombed a logging truck, totalling it, and damaged 3 others. NOT fine.

There are more peaceful ways to get your message accross. Firebombing and cutting break lines is NOT it

"Free the Lobsters"??? blink.gif

I agree that the criminal behavior is appalling and those responsible should be heavily punished. What were these people thinking?

I'm not sure if it's what you had in mind, GA, but I was reminded of those who murder workers in family planning clinics to demonstrate their respect for "life". To me they are both rather defeating the purpose. Protect animals, but endanger humans? Save the unborn, but slaughter the living? "Dimwits" doesn't even begin to describe these types.

I'm a strong supporter of Animal Rights, but it seems to me that such dangerous and irresponsible behaviour does far more harm than good to this cause.

I don't really see that there is any excuse for violent / illegal acts of protest unless there is no other possible means by which to have that protest heard.

And in the case of Animal Rights I don;t think there is ever an excuse for placing the lives of animals over the lives of humans.

I'm all for Kosher slaughter (minimum pain to the animals), strong oversight of meat processing plants (like Con-Agra in Colorado that released thousands of pounds of tainted meat), I'm not thrilled with the idea of cooking something alive (like lobsters), and know that vegans (no dairy/eggs, only vegies) have to take supplements to be healthy.

I also know that, when I chomp into raw vegies, I am eating something that is alive--just not as sentient as animals.

We have been created to eat meat. Some have learned the best way to do this (Kosher slaughter); others could care less how the animals were treated before and during slaughter. I agree that veal is one of the most disgusting meats on earth due to the way it is "produced". They hang calves up and feed them milk, then kill the little critters for our culinary enjoyment--horrible!

If a protest goes up without intended violence or property destruction, and it is close enough to me, I'll probably attend and attempt to write about it. Cutting brake lines is just plain nasty and cowardly. Shoot, I'd rather the protest be right in the face of the perpetrators of whatever the offense--not toward innocents and definitely not toward truck drivers just trying to make a buck.

As usual, nobody is sympathetic to this violent, cowardly form of protest. Nobody at all.

Boil up those lobsters, boys! Do it in the public square! Use glass pots! Watch those little bodies squirm! Hey, get creative. Wear black hoods!

Now that would be effective, IMO, and fun to write about. Guess it goes into my fiction, eh?
