As a child of the eighties, it saddens me to see Miyagi-san pass.

Pat Morita died yesterday od natural causes.

This thread is for karate kid or other (Happy Days) remembrances.

QUOTE
He also was a regular on "Sanford and Son" as Lamont's buddy Ah Chew

Good article on an interesting guy's life. I remember him in those early television roles and think he did some stand-up comedy along the way for the cameras. The thing about being Public Enemy Number One and the Chinese restaurant scene rings bells.

There's a special Heaven for comedians.

While Pat Morita is best known as Mr. Miyagi in the Karate Kid movies (and justly so), as a child of the 70's, I will always remember him fondly as Arnold on Happy Days. I remember he also played a small role as one of Admiral Yamamoto's advisors in the WWII movie Midway.

I am not sure, but I seem to remember that like many actors/celebrities in the 70's, he made the cursory appearance on The Love Boat as well (ooops, I just admitted that I watched that show didn't I. blush.gif Hey now! I was just a kid and didn't know any better... innocent.gif )

He was a very talented actor who could play it light and funny as well as heavy and serious. He will be missed. sad.gif

Didn't he have a part in Tora Tora Tora"?

I think his best was Happy Days. He was funny as hell. Who knew he could kick Fonzie's butt all along... hmmm.gif

What an interesting guy- I thought he would have been a tad healthier than that- only 73-

I have nothing but fond memories of that actor- everything I remember about him makes me smile a tad- good way to be remembered I guess?

RIP Mr Miyagi!

I saw Karate Kid in the theater with a guy I was crazy about. We had totally different reactions to the movie. While I thought it was romantic and wonderful, HE thought Daniel-san was a little creep who deserved hourly butt-whompings. LOL Such is the mystery of gender perspectives.

Rest in peace, Sensei.

I remember that he had a reoccurring guest spot on M*A*S*H*. I don't think he played the same character each time though.

It's kind of funny. I saw the M*A*S*H* episodes AFTER I watched the Karate Kid movies and so it was funny to see "Mr. Miyagi" there.

Mr. Morita was a class act in Hollywood. Regardless of your feelings about his acting it is always nice to have an actor who isn't a Hollywood Personality. You know, drugs, scandals, tabloids.

Granted he wasn't a Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise level celebrity but that why I like him even more.

I loved the Karate Kid movies, as well as Happy Days. And yes I think he was great in Midway too. Sad to see ya go.
