Last night and today have undoubtedly been the coldest of this fall, remember it isn't Winter yet... On the way to school this morning my oldest son announces he wants to go snowboarding. I laughed... I told him he couldn’t deal with the cold and an exchange went on until I told him to qualify he must first go to the frozen food section of the supermarket and hold a frozen turkey for twenty minutes.

My wife canceled swimming for my youngest son in his PE class because of the chill and wind blowing over the pool (the pool is open air). It got down to 72F last night with a 25mph sea breeze and today it has barely reached a high of 84F. We actually closed our windows last night and I was forced to cover with a sheet at 4:00 AM rather than get up and turn off the ceiling fan.

So how cold is it where you live? It is soooooo cold.........

Lowest reading here was -13 F yesterday early morning, before sunrise. The location is 8,500 feet above sea level in Colorado. Ironically, due to an inversion, we get warmer air today than down the mountain.

That's really nothing for a native Northern Minnesotan, where -10 F is a balmy winter day. It gets rough at or below -40 F. That's when motor oil turns to thick tar.

I bet our Alaskan members are laughing their well-insulated cans off at the near panic reactions of the lower 48-ers. I do feel sorry for those not accustomed to winter weather though. I think it's like raising a horse at altitude -- they do better than horses brought in from the flatlands. So getting raised in northern climates makes the cold less cold. Maybe it's just in the mind?

Just finished blowing the powder snow off the driveway. Hot chocolate is my reward thumbsup.gif That was fun.

You have no idea... I live in DALLAS, and it's 21 degrees!!!! We're about to die... 1/2 my staff didn't even come in today (we had an icestorm!). It's awful, especially considering that on Saturday it hit 80! BRRR... I'm about to freeze! smile.gif

Up here in W. Lafayette, Indiana it hasn't been above freezing in at least 5-7 days. Yesterday was a high of 17 or something awful like that. That's without wind chill. Right now we're supposed to be getting 3-6in. of snow and get above freezing around sunday (and by that I mean 33F, maybe high 30's). This is pretty ridiculously cold weather for this time of year since the average is about 38ish. I can't wait till I go back south for break.

Today in Idaho Falls, we are currently at 8 F, and it looks like that's about as warm as it will get. We're expecting a low of about -13.

<thinking happy thoughts of "freezing" temperatures like 72F smile.gif >

A very comfortable 63° in Redondo Beach, CA. Little cloudier than yesterday, when it was crystal clear, and gorgeous.

No complaints here. cool.gif

It is 29 right now and suppose to snow 3-6 inches for the second time this week. That is rare for DC.

I don't have a Weather Bug. I would guess it's low 20's or high teens outside right now in Columbus and dropping at night. Snot-freezing-in-your-nose kind of b-r-r-r. Arizona and California sound mighty fine right now.

And part of the reason to move out of Vermont was the cold...

I'm going to pass on the big can of SHHHHHHH... it's COLD here in Dallas. I just ran out to the truck to grab change for a Diet Coke... and slipped on ice outside at 4:30... pray for me. The Good Lord didn't prepare most of us Texans for this! smile.gif

Well the beach will be filled with surfers with the wind we're having. Last week we were having twenty feet waves coming from that last named hurricane of the year...

Eat your heart out check out my forecast ... http://www.srh.noaa.gov/ifps/MapClick.php?...p.x=93&map.y=95

The bannas should be ripe by Christmas... the greatfurit are ready right now and the wife just planted a couple more orchids.

It's been about 10 days since we last saw temps above the teens. It only got to like 22 today, so it could spit 6 inches or so of snow on us, and then it's gonna take another dive.

We have a housekeeper at the hotel where I work that's gotta be 70 if she's a day. After our first real snowfall of the season the other day, she left for work a half-hour early so she wouldn't be late. It was 16 degrees out, and she walks to work, about a mile and a half, every day. Needless to say when I heard this, we now send one of the hotel vans to go get her in the morning, when it's below freezing out. She hasn't missed a day due to illness or snowstorms in over 11 years.

She makes me feel guilty for driving to work every morning, but I'm originally a Florida boy, and I hate this cold and white stuff as much as you, Sarge and Aevans. Just couldn't resist giving you all a hard time. w00t.gif

Here in western Michigan it's currently 19.9 degrees with a wind chill of 11. I keep saying, at least we don't have hurricanes here...

But, judging from the other reports here from places like where AuthorMusician lives, I don't have a lot to complain about. thumbsup.gif

This looks like it's going to be a rough winter for most of us.

What a difference a day makes.

It got into the low 40s yesterday and warmer weather is coming today. Nothing like having a Minnesota January day followed by a Minnesota March day, one after another.

We often get spring/summer/winter/fall here within a couple of days. It's part of the charm. Also the challenge, in that this can happen in July too.

Crazy, just crazy. Love it tongue.gif

Freezing rain in Texas? Geez. That is a rough one, hundreds of times worse than snow. Not as bad as Texas Flood (SVR licks here, something to warm it up).

Amen to that. I live in Dallas now, but grew up in Montana. So, I've driven in all kinds of winter weather, but the only times I've ever had any real problems have been with the freezing rain and ice in Texas. It can get so bad you have problems just getting out to your car......much less driving anywhere in it.

I'm in Albuquerque this week, about the same temps as Dallas. Little colder during the night....I think it's been getting down to around 10 degrees or so.

FWIW...it got down to 65 below zero once when I was going to school in Butte, MT.
(yes, we still had school, at least for college, not like these wimpy Texans who close things down at the first sight of any real winter biggrin.gif )

I've had my share of cold weather growing up in WV-NJ and then spending lots of time in places like Korea and Germany. While in the Army I was stationed in CO and the winter is fantastic. Did some cold times in NC, OK, TX, WA, PA, MA and VA.

In NC when the black ice would come the safest place to be was at home and stay away from doors and windows because those folks don't know how to slow down on ice. My wife did a 720 on black ice in Germany on a mountain and almost went off the mountain... I'll take snow anytime over ice... it is such a helpless feeling while your on it and equally helpless if you skid sidways onto dry roadway. I was checking out the news in TX and saw the results of overturned suv's yesterday.
Vibiana
I was out of the office yesterday because Kansas City got about 8 inches of snow. It was in the single digits yesterday, but today I think it's in the teens. All the snow is quite a mess to plow through, but I'm still alive. LOL
