I hope you enjoy the trip to your new home! Traveling with kids is such fun when moving... I recall moving from VA to CO and we did it on a do it yourself plan and had our belongings packed in the largest moving rental truck available with the car in tow behind. As we arrived in Colorado Springs my stepdaughter, still in diapers threw her shoe out the window. Of course is was a special shoe her grandmother had sent her from Germany so we had to make the block(s) and then make new friends by stopping traffic for several minutes as I recovered the treasure.
I was stationed in Washington DC a few years back and lived in an apartment in Alexandria and I hate to say it but I despised it. Mainly the traffic followed by the swamp weather the area is famous for. I worked in downtown DC so the drive that would take 15 minutes in CO would average from an hour to an hour and a half. August and September are almost identical to Puerto Rico's weather... 105F with 90% humidity. DC is a single man's paradise so keep an eye on hubby... the girls outnumber the men by a large margin and usually have a nice federal job... to top it off it is a large center for homosexuals so there are many desperate "single women".
Here's wishing you have a nice safe trip and all of your belongings arrive safely and if not a nice insurance adjustment for the broken stuff. Don't pack anything you can't live without!
The DC areas has a great social possibility and please don’t take me wrong about my poor opinion on the traffic and weather... DC is a sad rat race of white people commuting away from the poor hard working black folks of the DC proper. The only white people in DC after dark are in the Whitehouse and exclusive tourist areas of Georgetown. You will love it and hate it at the same time...
After settling down venture out into the panhandle of WV for some of the most beautiful scenery you may find any place in the world...
