As we know the US military has a unit to get a message out in the media in other countries. It is forbidden here in the USA for the military to do so. They have state of the art studios, and a team of 1,200 in this “psycologicval operations unit” Their mission is to write articles that are “truthful messages” to support the US government.

Military's Information War Is Vast and Often Secretive

The media center in Fayetteville, N.C., would be the envy of any global communications company.
In state of the art studios, producers prepare the daily mix of music and news for the group's radio stations or spots for friendly television outlets. Writers putting out newspapers and magazines in Baghdad and Kabul converse via teleconferences. Mobile trailers with high-tech gear are parked outside, ready for the next crisis.
…..
Defenders of influence campaigns argue that they are appropriate. "Psychological operations are an essential part of warfare, more so in the electronic age than ever," said Lt. Col. Charles A. Krohn, a retired Army spokesman and journalism professor. "If you're going to invade a country and eject its government and occupy its territory, you ought to tell people who live there why you've done it. That requires a well-thought-out communications program.
There have been many here on AD that say control ownership of the media is not important, I think this clearly again gives a perfect example how important control of the message delivery system is. That our government is deeply committed to it. Also remember the CIA spent 10s of millions opening up a radio station based out of the DC area that is heard in the ME. So now we have the Military as well as the CIA that are involved in our propaganda. We also know that many years ago the CIA had over 400 reporters on their payroll. They say they stopped this but did they? Or did they just find a way around it by subcontracting it out.
Questions for the debate,
1, are these methods practiced on the American people via ownership and hiring the right reporters, leaking to "friendly reporters" or are we to smart for it?
2, where do these 1,200 people of this one group find jobs after they leave the military, more of the CIA groups, do they move into main stream media?
3, Should a law be made that they can never be involved in US media after they leave the government?
