Recent debate on the tax cuts for the rich have been weighed against the cuts in cost of living increase for Medicaid and heating and cooling govmt assistance programs for the unfortunate poor. I consider this to be a valid debate even though from the outset I present it without concern for PC.

My position is this, the govmt doesn’t owe me anything regardless how irresponsible I elect to live my life. People should be responsible for their food, heating and cooling and contribute to the govmt taxes to support, SS, Medicare, schools, highways, police and political offices regardless of income. Persons of good health not willing to support society shouldn’t expect any handout from the govmt.

I think the govmt was established to allow the “pursuit” of happiness and not to hand it out. Persons not able to afford heat or air conditioning that are able to work should go to church or the library to warm up or cool down and just stay there at closing time to keep the janitor company. If the church or the govmt don’t like it then put them on the street.

My point is this, what is poor or the line that divides one from receiving such aid form a responsible person that simply earns it? If you earn $29,999 and have four kids the govmt gives you a $1,000 for AC and or heat and if you make $30,000 you sweat or turn down the thermostat in the winter and pay taxes to pay for the guy making a dollar less?

On the other hand we have a fellow immigrant that starts a business folding tacos or frying rice and hires sever employees to help and the govmt wants to take half the income after the “pursuit.” I saw on the history channel that Intel is opening a new factory in Israel to develop the new or future super chips coming down the pike, an investment of a couple billion dollars. The operation will hire thousands of top end employees along with labor support staff. Israel will assess no taxes for the first five years and then guarantee tax assessment will never exceed 10%.

Questions for debate

How can the government punish success and reward failure through tax giveaways?

Why does the govmt punish employers by overtaxing them?

What is moral in providing comfort to lazy people?

Why should the govmt care if you are cold or hot if you are not in jail?

What is moral in providing comfort to lazy people?

The premise of your whole thread is flawed. There is no direct 1:1 correlation between poverty and laziness. Other causes would include being elderly and/or disabled. Asthmatics are susceptible to heat.

Sometimes the victims of poverty are children.

I personally don't want to jerk the rug out from under these groups.
