I read the news stories and the various editorials about americas next generation of Latest and Greatest ENEMIES all devoting every spare moment to our destruction.
Yet occasionally i read things that make me realize that the greatest danger to freedom and democracy is not the majority of people in this world but its "Leaders' and the self appointed representatives of morality--generally fundamentalist religious types.

The current president of Iran--who has made himself the topic of many of the current dire warnings of iran has openly declared the Holocaust a lie and recently BANNED Western style music in Iran -- trying to reinvigorate a 1979 Islamic revolution attempt.

The article I read this morning had some comments made by citizens of iran who seem to be quite rational and whose responses would probably not be out of place in New York or Chicago.

QUOTE
"This president speaks as if he is living in the Stone Age. This man has to understand that he can't tell the people what to listen to and what not to listen to," said Mohammed Reza Hosseinpour as he browsed through a Tehran music shop.

QUOTE
"Clerics and officials speak about imposing restrictions every other day. I don't think it's going to be enforced," said Reza Sadeghi as he counted some bills he received from the sale of an Eric Clapton tape.
c'mon they listen to Clapton, and are sensible enough to ignore the fundie wackos, just how different are we really?
QUOTE
"Don't take this man (Ahmadinejad) seriously," said Pari Mahmoudi, a teen driving in the capital, as the Eagles' "Hotel California" blared from the car speakers.
doesn't matter what culture or when in history. it appears teenagers will always BE teenagers tongue.gif

They seem sort of embarrassed to be affiliated with idiots such as Ahmadinejad, and quite sensibly ignoring the dictates of said idiots and their flying monkey moral minority.
Of course it is early and the fundies can and will of probably resort to the tactics so often used by religious wackos--either the threats of violence or flat out killing those who oppose them. Book burning..........
Hasn't happened yet but we have obviously seen it done before.

Is Ahmadinejad not simply the most perfect caricature of the religious wacko buffoon?

Why is it that these fools always seem to rise to power, or at least be the main advisors to those in power? Why do sensible people always seem to allow these types into their governments?

How do we get rid of these canker sores and prevent them from flaring back up again? Any ideas on how to neuter these cancers upon humanity?
