What was your best Christmas present this year?

I'd have to say my best one was a CD of John Mellencamp's
Greatest Hits
. It's awesome!

Aquilla
We didn't have a huge Christmas this year in terms of numbers of presents. But, my best one was my little girl telling me, "Daddy, this was the best Christmas ever!" wub.gif

Easy. I got my letter of acceptance from NU on Christmas Eve...Technically not a "Christmas" present, but back off, it was good.

Best Christmas present? Well, I could name off all the material crap that I got. My girlfriend spoiled me, but, I would have to say that the best thing I got was just a nice three day weekend, alone with my girlfriend. We watched all the traditional movies, A Christmas Story, It's a Wonderful Life, Miracle of 34th St. We got up early and I cooked breakfast and we opened presents and then she went back to bed and I played video games! mrsparkle.gif

What should have been a bad Christmas, (lost my brother earlier this year), my girlfriend made sure I had what turned out to be one of the best Christmas' EVER.

Peace and Love.

Northwestern? I'm impressed.

My best gift was 2nd-Amendment related, but the family getting together was probably much more important than the material stuff.

1. The six-foot-tall cat tree that my uncle gave my three babies.

2. Getting to spend the weekend with said uncle and relax.

3. Realizing how many friends and loved ones I really have.

Kudos to you, CP. That's awesome! I have a friend who is currently attending
Law School at Northwestern. He loves it and I'm sure you will too. Best of luck
to you. us.gif

The best present I got this year was a digital camera because its going to allow me to take lots of pictures of my young daughter heart.gif

I got an emailed photo -- I was at work Christmas -- of my son wearing his superman cape and running around the house.

Materially its a toss up between my mp3 player or my dvd durner.

mainly I just enjoyed time with my family and with my wife without one of us having to run out the door to get to work. The whole family together for a few hours was great.

I would say my book Theodore Rex. I got dozens of books but this one was a great value buy because it cost 2 bucks for a very good shape hardback. This is a book that would cost like 30 bucks otherwise.

The best gift on it's own content or excitement merit would have to be the new Ipod.

Paladin Elspeth
I got a warm, fuzzy blue bathrobe from my daughter, and a pair of jeans from her dad, Curmudgeon.

But the best present was celebrating Christmas with my family. wub.gif

Best present...

The Oxford Dictionary of the Classical World. w00t.gif One of those books you need to have if you are as obsessed with Ancient History as I am. flowers.gif

My best present was an Ipod mini. I am now in the MP3 Itunes world.

I would greatly prefer something with a display screen. But it'll do. I now can walk and mow and jog with tunes.

I am with Aquilla on this one- my boy and girl's faces and comments were by far the best gift- I guess until you are a Dad or a parent you really don't understand Christmas that well, especially if your childhood was mostly really bad and dramatic Christmas-s flowers.gif

My favorite material gift, turned out to be, despite some very nice gifts from many relatives- my "Tails of the Dragon" deals gap T-shirt and brochure from my cuz in Texas- my dream motorcyle ride across the country destination.

The shirt is killer, looks great on me, and impresses my biker friends LOL

My best Christmas present, to the extent that I even observe the day, was the permission granted me to work on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, so that others who have family in the area could have those shifts off to spend time with their loved ones. I've been given a similar present for New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. thumbsup.gif

How cool is that Wertz? I want to be just like you when I grow up LOL-

really- I did that for years when I was single and didn't have kids- and now, co-workers do that for me-

guess the Lion King and all that circle of life crap really is a true story LOL

No kids here, so I don't get all the warm fuzzies in that direction. And I won't rank material gifts in order to get more next year (I have family that reads this site! laugh.gif ).

However, the one thing I really wanted and couldn't create or buy was nice weather. We were lucky enough to get it. 70s on Christmas day. We opened some gifts on Mike's sister's porch. The nieces and nephews were in skirts or shorts and barefoot. It was a fabulous day. cool.gif

Given that I spent the previous Christmas (and eve) in my house by myself due to a project with entirely too aggressive go live dates, my greatest present was being able to spend it with my family in Atlanta. And the xm radio upgrade was a very nice 2nd smile.gif

My best present was a geeky one: computer parts! New CPU (Athlon 64 3500+) and motherboard, which I'll install myself probably next week -- too busy now.

Lest I come off as too saintly, if I did have family in the area and there were some sort of plans for a get-together, I would've been far less altruistic. whistling.gif But I figured those who actually had plans that would've been thwarted if they'd had to work should have been given the time off, if possible. I was scheduled to work on Christmas Eve anyway, but I traded shifts for the other three days with people who'd been scheduled to work. My manager was a bit reluctant to have anyone work both holidays and both eves, but she eventually relented when I told her it really made no difference to me.

I'm not saying I eschew the material by any means, but even as a kid, the focus on "what do you want for Christmas" struck me as a tad inappropriate. This time of year, I've always been more about peace and good will than frankincense and myrrh. The rest of the year, I can be as greedy as anyone else. tongue.gif

Thanks for the congratulations guys but you're thinking of the wrong direction...I'm going to NorthEASTERN University...in Boston. Northwestern would've laughed at me, had I applied.

Wertz -- after hearing so many whines about having to work those days, it's refreshing to see someone who shows the right attitude! smile.gif

I'm childless and unmarried, too, and really don't mind working the holidays as long as I'm given compensurate time off in exchange. I use it to enjoy spring and fall Fridays off! smile.gif

doomed_planet: I wanna borrow that CD! lol
