Is it time for a new Vice President?

Who would be the best candidate?

Should the '08 elections be part of the thinking?

It was time for a new President and Vice President in 2004. Unfortunately, the voters didn't see it that way in large enough numbers to bring it about. But considering the blunders of the current V.P., he should consider resigning. Cheney should be asking himself whether or not his continued service is in the best interest of the country.

Gerald Ford. He has done this before. Later when Bush resigns, Ford will be positioned to pardon him. Then he can begin his new administration by announcing that "Once again, the long national nightmare is over!" biggrin.gif

Was it John Adams that said the VP position is basically worthless? Despite all the vitriol out there I don’t think there’s a reason for him to leave. I really doubt that Cheney will step down in a time of weakness and that would be the perception at the moment.

Who would be the best candidate?

John J. Miller at the National Review wrote a good piece on this hypothetical. There is no standout choice except for Rice and there is a real chance she might not be able to get the nomination in 08. That would be an embarrassing turn of events for the Republican party.

Should the '08 elections be part of the thinking?

If there is one given in politics, elections are always part of the thinking. Whoever would be picked would be the clear frontrunner in '08. That would a very dicey situation for both parties.
