QUOTE
The driver of an SUV that plowed into a group of pedestrians at UNC-Chapel Hill on Friday told police it was retribution for the treatment of Muslims around the world, according to ABC11 News.

QUOTE
Investigators said they did not know what motivated the driver, Mohammed Reza Taheriazar, 23, who was enrolled at UNC last fall. Taheriazar turned himself in about two miles from the campus near Raleigh, Chapel Hill police Capt. Brian Curran said. - Netscape

This paragraph, which is included in the story on CNN's site, is curiously omitted in the Netscape version.

QUOTE
The FBI joined the case because Taheri-azar, a native of Iran, "allegedly made statements that he acted to avenge the American treatment of Muslims," said agent Richard Kolko, an FBI spokesman in Washington. "The ongoing investigation will work to confirm this." - CNN Story

Netscape's editing of the CNN story curious, to say the least. It fails to identify the nationality of the perpetrator, and it deliberately gives the impression that authorities are clueless as to the motive for the attack.

Questions for debate:

1) What do you think accounts for Netscape's treatment?

2) Have y'all heard of this incident in any MSM? What sort of presentation did y'all recieve?

Wow you're right

when I use my FOX NEws secret MSM decoder Ring (or is FOX also part of the widespread Main Stream Media plot--is BD actually Hillary Clinton hmmm.gif )
I see VERY clearly that it is a blatant attempt to destroy America from within--even more frightening is the clear involvement of the French and the how this will actually lead to the replacement of Christmas with some Liberal pagan holiday demanding the sacrifice of small children.
Very serious indeed hmmm.gif

is clearly a signal to AlQuaeda to flood our markets by manipulating energy costs, thereby forcing unrest in California because of rolling blackouts and thus leading to severe anarchy resulting in yet more gay marriage initiatives.

or this part

as for the presentation I received I got none from any televised or radio outlet because I just don't bother with them. I already know the whole Left/Right spin.
although I am offended that this is not the fulltime main story on the hard hitting news program Fox and Friends. mad.gif

What is the whole MSM kick these days? Is it the latter day paranoia incarnation of the Black Helicopters from the good ole days when militias dreamt of bloody overthrow of the US gummint--oh those were the days--michigan militia, Freeman, ruby ridge, unmarked helicopters. crying.gif

and since when is Netscape even valid as a news source or even a valued media source--its kinda like claiming USA Today is the epitome of print journalism.

1) What do you think accounts for Netscape's treatment?

Quite possibly lack of knowledge at the time the story was written. The time stamp on the Netscape version was 3/3/06 17:58 (I don't know what time zone). At CNN.com, it was 3/4/06 9:04 pm EST. The reporter writing the later story may have actually had more information than the one writing the earlier one.

Nonetheless, it's still quite instructive to see how this was reported by the MSM. In none of the stories you linked to do the words "hate crime" appear, in stark contrast to how it would be if the driver had been a white native-born American plowing into a group of Muslims saying he wanted to avenge 9/11.

The story on Netscape is sourced from CNN. Netscape is part of AOL Time-Warner, one of the world's largest news and media companies, which also owns CNN.

I think my response should be pretty clear BD, but just for you.

I find the whole MSM fantasy to be pretty silly. Not even worthy of conspiracy, tin foil hat theory level.

pretty well sums up the supporters of the theory,

As for Netscape--why not focus on an real news outlet, there are so many actual ones to choose from.
Netscape cannot even make a decent browser why would you expect anything from them to worth much at all? Its like finding a blogger first post and using as the definition of the whole phenomenon. Scraping the barrel here.

There's no conspiracy here BD. Just a loser who tried to hurt others for whatever reasons, same as the loser we had here in AZ who just after 9/11 decided to be an Authentic Amurikan Hero and shot a Sihk to death because he had a turban on his head.
Whatever Taheri-azar reasons may be BD I find it irrelevant anyhow. He is a piece of garbage who will soon be locked up with others of his stripe. For me the article you refer to doesn't NEED to say anything more than it does.
Sub human loser tries to hurt others, soon to be centerpiece of prison shower focus group--news at 11.

1) What do you think accounts for Netscape's treatment?

I think the explanation is probably simpler than it might appear. Netscape's article dates the night that the event took place, and the other articles were printed the next day. More than likely, the motive wasn't clear at that time so they just printed what information they had.

2) Have y'all heard of this incident in any MSM? What sort of presentation did y'all recieve?

No, but I don't follow the news much. Really, I'm not sure it's such a big deal, though. No one was killed or seriously injured, though there were some minor injuries. This isn't exactly the work of a covert agent. Weird things often happen on University campuses that don't make headline news.

I'll add to include that I wouldn't say I don't think there is a general news bias, though. I was (and still am) concerned with the shooting of the military policeman on leave from Iraq on video. Didn't make much of a blurb on the news. Imagine if that had been caught on video in Iraq, a soldier shooting a civilian on his knees after he was told to get up. Or, heck, a Muslim American caught on video, shot three times under the same circumstances, on his knees, after saying the words, "I just left my meeting at the Mosque" instead of "I'm on leave from Iraq"? Okay, get up....Pow, pow, pow! hmmm.gif

What if the ethnicities of the people in this story were reversed? Would the words "hate crime" be more likely to appear in the article? My own experience reading and listening to the news is that it would almost certainly be described that way. It very much appears that for most reporters (whether they consciously acknowledge this to themselves or not), only certain arrangements of ethnicities among the perpertrators and victims of a crime can make it a "hate crime".
