Happy Valentines Day everyone. I am having a good one already. I have passed the test for another year. I will be bragged about at her office tomorrow.

I voted "an average holiday," but that's only because my significant other couldn't care less about it. crying.gif

What did you do to warrant such a fabulous response at her office? I want to live vicariously. tongue.gif

I am male. She is easy. Any effort makes me the hero wub.gif of the office. This year is was a modest gold heart shaped diamond pendant. The bonus for me is that my mom comes in this weekend in my wife will wear it to my inaugural (and likely last) time to go see the Grand Ole Opry at its original location at the Ryman Theater.

That's great Eeyore! I hope that you both have lots of fun! biggrin.gif

Mike's a lucky man. I've hated Valentine's Day long before he ever came on the scene.

Would anyone be suprised that I voted for the second option? biggrin.gif

I voted the second option too.

I've made a vow this year to not buy any cards, roses, candy, or diamonds on Valentine's Day.... and also hoping that my wife doesn't remember that today is Valentine's Day. whistling.gif

Looks like almost the entire Second Option Brigade is 'fessing up, so... me, too. In fact, neither myself nor my partner really celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas (unless we're haplessly surrounded by family), or Valentine's Day - we tend to "celebrate" whatever day we happen to be in. We do have our twenty-third anniversary coming up this summer, though, and we might do something for that - we like the number twenty-three.

Several years ago, we visited Christchurch in Dublin on Valentine's Day. They have the heart of St. Valentine in an iron, heart-shaped reliquary chained to a wall in a chapel there. That was romantic. ermm.gif

Does anyone know the actual beginnings of this "holiday"?

oh and I voted that this was a stupid poll...but only because I don't know the answer to the aforementioned question.
Kisov
Limpubus, that might have been a rhetorical question. . .but I actually have the answer for it. (enter your various loser comment here) online2long.gif

St. Valentine (of course he wasn't a saint at the time) was put in prison for being a Catholic. . .as was typical at the time. While he was in prison he fell in love with a woman. . .I'm not certain who she was or how he met a woman while in prison. But he would send he letters while in prison proclaiming his love for her, and all of the letters would be signed
"Your Valentine". He was eventually killed for his faith, but the stories of his faith and also his love letters spread and formed the holiday we have today.

That is, of course, the cliffnotes version, but you get the point.
