Predictions on the actual outcome of the boycott on monday?

"No work, no school, no sales, no buying"

http://www.guardian.co.uk/usa/story/0,,1765065,00.html

How do you think this will affect the economy or society?

My belief is, one, they have no money to spend and two, if they don't work they'll get fired.

I predict no effects from this action. And what we are seeing is that the illegals in this country are starting to become a little shaken by the backlash of "their demands". Stirring the pot may just get them deported.

How will the economy or society be impacted by the boycott?

I think the more the illegals protest, the less support they receive from Joe Average.

I saw the superintendent of the LA schools saying that any teachers who don't show up will not be paid (seems obvious) and could face disciplinary action if they do not contact their principal in advance.

[Prediction: I don't think these demonstrations will be as large as predicted, since it's a week day. The police, of course, need to prepare for the worst case scenario.]

The calls for boycotts, while within the rights of the groups involved, will not garner them any friends. If something isn't done, these rallies are going to turn violent and it will take the army to round up the protestors. Let's hope that doesn't happen.

Will the economy collapse from a one day boycott? I'm not sure this is a serious question. Um, no. The economy wouldn't collapse from a one day boycott for almost every legal worker in America. Some plants will have to close for the day, though. That's about it. Of course, if they went away permanently the economy would likely be impacted. I don't think I'd use the term "collapse" even then, though.

I don't predict violence. The protestors are trying to make the point that they are relevant. They aren't calling for blockades of government buildings or mass aggressive protests. Nothing to see here, move along....

Preambling: I find myself on the side of Repubs regarding this issue. Ah well, sometimes we agree to agree.

No, boycotting your job is an exercise in futility. It is cutting off the nose to spite the face. There is no impact because a hundred others want your job, and they happen to be legal citizens of the United States.

The argument for illegals cannot be made convincingly. Our economy does not depend upon them. We already have bona fide immigration laws, so follow them already. We could ship the millions of illegals back for less money that it takes to run the Iraq war for one day. The effort would help create jobs that we desperately need: law enforcement, bus drivers, and of course the jobs that the illegals give up (and we want).

Hey, in younger years I would have loved a landscaping job, construction, even janitor. As it was, I did road crew work, highway shoulder grass cutting, foundry work, even sewer stinky service. No job was beneath me. We still have young Americans, do we not? They need and want the work.

Personally, I work seven days a week at tasks that illegals cannot do. That does not mean that I refuse the work that they do, just that I'm not qualified due to age. However, an army of legal US citizens in their younger years can do the work and want it.

So go ahead and boycott your job. See what unemployment is like, eh?
