Cyclist Lance Armstrong has been cleared of doping charges today by an independent agency who found misconduct on the investigator's side.

Armstrong story

QUOTE
Independent Dutch investigators cleared Lance Armstrong of doping in the 1999 Tour de France on Wednesday, and blamed anti-doping authorities for misconduct in dealing with the American cyclist.

A 132-page report recommended convening a tribunal to discuss possible legal and ethical violations by the World Anti-Doping Agency and to consider "appropriate sanctions to remedy the violations."

The French sports daily L'Equipe reported in August that six of Armstrong's urine samples from 1999, when he won the first of his record seven-straight Tour titles, came back positive for the endurance-boosting hormone EPO when they were retested in 2004.

Of course, the vested interest of the French in tainting Armstrong was never mentioned as a motive in the smear of the champion cyclist.

Is it possible that ex-Marine and anti-war activist Cindy... uh, I mean John Murtha has an axe to grind in his premature condemnation, conviction, and sentencing of the Marines accused of the atrocities in Iraq?

What ever happened to due process, fairness, and the notion that people in our society are innocent before proven guilty?

Questions for debate:

1. Do you believe this finding with respect to Armstrong? Is he innocent or is this yet another part of a conspiratorial plot to allow his cheating?

2. Has ex-Marine Murtha jumped the gun and forgotten the constitution he swore to protect and uphold?

I guess "straight talkers" and "shooters from the hip" are only likeable when they are Republican, huh? rolleyes.gif
Rep. Murtha has access to information which I haven't seen yet. He's seen the report. I haven't. Apparently, whatever it is that he's seen is enough for him to decide that those marines commited murder. "If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck..."

I can't comment on your first statement since it's not one that is applicable to me. Our legal system and our tradition of justice is not fowl (pun intended).

Murtha is declaring them guilty upon "reports" not after a fair system of justice has been applied.

Don't you think (even for a second) that he's jumping the gun here?

Initial press reports had the Duke Lacrosse players guilty as charged by the low-life stripper who accused them. Now, there are serious discrepancies being reported in her allegations and serious implications that she, and a fellow stripping witness, have their OWN legal issues which could destroy any credibility that anyone might have offered to them.

That's why we have courts of law and a system of military justice. Polls, press reports, even internal military reports, and popular opinion don't determine who's guilty or not.

Our civilization depends on the rule of law and the fair application of such.

Why are the left in such a hurry to rush to judgment, forgo due process, and convict and condemn these soldiers before all the evidence has been presented?

And why is ex-Marine Murtha out front on this? Is the spotlight and TV camera too hard for him to resist at this point?

Besides, what do you think of Lance Armstrong?
