If the democrats are to win the next election thereby saving the world how will they do it?
I think they should attack Bush and try to show how stupid he really is. If the democrats can really say something about policy they can't lose. All Bush does is talk about killing terrorists and morality

!!!!!! If somebody can win by saying I'm a idiot who doesn't cheat on his wife and I love America, We have sunk to a new low.

Guess what???
I was fond of America.......once.
I love my country as we all should do.
I dont cheat on my wife and I love my kids and grandkids.
America frightens me now because I see a future of continuing war from the testosterone enriched meglomaniac that commands their future.
Only Americans can fix it.
We, out here, do as we are told.
Regards to you..........Alan

Actually, if the Democrats really want to pull it out in '04, they're going to have to cease and desist with all of the attacks against Bush, and more broadly, against the entire GOP. We seriously need to get back to basics and discuss the issues, and why our ideas will work to help this country...
We can keep pointing out all of the bad policies of the current administration, and the congress, which has rolled over and become rubber stamps for the Bush agenda. It doesn't, however answer the questions of the American people.
How can our party help the ailing economy?
1. Targeted tax cuts for low and middle income people who really need it, and will spend the additional money that they'll keep on consumer goods and services. Giving money to billionaires only makes those who are already wealthy, wealthier... It does nothing to stimulate the economy.
2. We need to make a bigger investment in R&D. New technologies create new jobs, and opportunities for investment for our nations businesses.
3. We also need to invest heavily in small business, which is, in reality, what provides our economy's backbone. People with a good, sound business plan should be given the opportunity to create jobs, and guaranteeing loans for these people has a direct, and almost immediate impact on the economy.
4. Over the long term, a strong investment in education is key to creating a healthy economy. We need to ensure that every person in this country is given the opportunity to live up to his/her potential. No person should be left behind based on their ability to pay.
What will the Democrats do about terrorism?
1. It was the Democrats who originally conceived of the Department of Homeland security, and created the legislation. We will continue providing powerful tools for law enforcement to do their job... At the same time, however, we must always stand to protect the freedom of the American people. If we sacrifice our freedom for the sake of fighting terrorism, what exactly is it that's left to defend?
2. We must continue to utilize our military strength to fight terrorist organizations world-wide.
3. We need to address problems at their root cause, and never allow our commitment to brokering peace around the world to falter. Military force should only be used as a last option. The negotiating table is always preferable to the battlefield.
How will the Democrats handle foreign affairs?
1. The United States needs to end its current isolationist policies. Instead of alienating our allies, we must work with them to ensure peace and security in the world. Without their help, we seriously limit ourselves... From the war on terror, to trade opportunities for our nation's businesses.
2. We need to encourage the UN to work with us to create peace, and opportunity around the world. With the amounts of money that are invested in the UN every year, we shouldn't have a problem directing that toward streamlined programs to better countries in the developing world. We can keep throwing money at these problems, or we can help them to develop systems so they can become self-sufficient. The investment today, will create strong trading partners and economic opportunities for tomorrow.

The needed medicine is for a clear Democratic agenda to emerge. The Democrats need to present a clear direction into the future and let people who hear about it compare it what the Repbulicans are doing. Sniping at Republican programs and policies that raise individuals Dems ire is simply taking the debate on the Republican playing field. They dictate the issues being debated, when they get debated, and often on what terms.
We need especially to provide a vision of America's future economy. Run on the record of the type of economy that was promoted in the 1990s. Sell the shoring up of Social Security and paying down the debt as being in the best interests of the American people. Oppose further tax cuts without a surplus. Ask republicans to pay for their tax cuts instead of allowing them to claim that they cut taxes and runaway Democratic programs caused the deficits.
Emphasize the effective creation of the Homeland Security system. Figure out how to get the money and training to America's first responders without helping create a vast network of bureaucracy all under the control of the CIA director.
But mostly, find the democrats strongest points of common ground and hammer home those themes until they get addressed with and leave all of the other static behind until one of the chosen issues has been resolved.
