I found the following story online: Mother ordered to stop breastfeeding boy, eight

While there's little left that shocks me, I was disturbed by this one.

This woman has no business breatfeeding her eight year old child. Why it did not occur to her to stop this practice is beyond my comprehension.

Any thoughts?

Well, I think a good time to stop breast feeding is probably when the child has teeth.

I'm not a parent, so I don't really know when that is, but I think that's around 2, right?

Also, if you can read the words "breast feed", you probably shouldn't be doing it.

She insists that the practice is natural but does not know if she still produces milk.

Why doesn't she just ask the kid? He's probably able to tell her when he's done doing his homework. This kid is likely in SECOND GRADE!

QUOTE
Her son was taken into foster care for several months in 2000 after a babysitter alerted a child-abuse hotline about the breastfeeding. He was later returned home.

I think someone needs to be fired over there.

On a different note, though, this is one of those cases where the child is probably better off without the "mother".

Good point, Mike. If the child needs a book while he suckles, he probably shouldn't be there. Hey, the mother probably suffered enough, anyhow. The kid must've had a full set of teeth. sad.gif

First of all, you start getting your teeth before the age of 1. . .just in case anyone was wondering. If she is breastfeeding him only every 10 days or so, then she is definately not still producing milk. Breastfeeding is something that has to be done at least every day or the milk just stops producing. Which means she is doing this for no other reason but to get her jollies off! If she calls that "natural" than I have serious doubts about her grasp of reality. If a father was still giving his daughter sponge baths at that age, we would call him a child molester and lock him up. I see very little reason why they shouldn't do that to this mother.
