In the last few weeks I have been receiving a lot of irritating avertising e-mail and I have only used my address at two sites in that time. This site is one of them. Today I received some irritating pornographic mail.

Does this site give out the addresses of its members at all? dry.gif

No. Never.

Is it possible to change an e-mail address and retain a user name here?
Mike
Never never never.

We do not give out or sell any information at any time. We never have, and never will.

If you take a look at one of the links on the forum to send someone email, you'll notice that it takes you to a web-based form. Your email address is never revealed to anyone unless you reveal it to them.

I did a search at Google on your email address, and it returns a comments page to a magazine. Apparently you had sent them some comments, and they in turn decided to post your email address to the world. whistling.gif

This is likely the source of the problem. sad.gif

Yes, moif, it is possible.

If you experience any difficulties, just send an email from the new account to info@americasdebate.com with your username in it, and I'll make the switch for you.

Mike

* One thing to add, you'll need to reactivate your account. Basically, once you change the email address, the forum will generate an email. Check your mail, and click on the link in the email. I think that's all there is to it.

Moif, i subscribe only to a ezine website that sends me Coffee Break (News) Current Events News, Clean Jokes, & Entertainment news but i still get Credit Card ads, porn ads, car deals, webcam software ads, etc

If you get on an e-mail mailing list for something totally unrelated to what SPAM you get, you are still on everyone's mail list no matter what privacy notice they give you

As an FYI, I did not recieve any noticeable additional trash e-mail after registering here a few weeks back
Jaime
Just to clarify (in case this was still lingering) Mike and I DO NOT have an email list of all the members on this forum. We have access to viewing each address individually but there is no list.

And goamerica- privacy policies are binding. However, most are so cleverly worded, you need to read them very carefullly to know what you're getting into.

If you entered onto an emailing list (in the US) and they promised not to sell, trade or distribute your name and you can prove they are, you can demand they stop and potentially sue them if they continue to violate their terms.

This is probably one of those rare sites that don't actually send out your email

and you can prove they are,

well, thats the kicker. It's almost impossible to prove it.

There are sites out there, that generate a random and valid email address for you. It would look something like she456%^@somedomain.com. then, you point this address to your real address. use that addy when you fill out a form or post your email somewhere. That way, when you receive spam to that email , you know exactly where it came from.

oh, you know that, because you can have as many of those email addresses that you want. one for each forum membership, magazine, etc etc. they all point to the same place.

do a search, i don't recall what the name of the site is that does this for you
