College football fans will know that this Saturday is the big one: OSU-Michigan

The Scarlet and Gray versus the Maize and Blue.

"Those Bastards up North" versus whatever Michigan residents call us Ohio residents.

Is this college football's greatest rivalry?

Who will win this Saturday's game and advance to the National Championship game?

Will the loser also advance to the National title game?

Is this college football's greatest rivalry?

Probably. I think A&M tu is higher up on the list than most people think, though (is there any state legislation in either Ohio or Michigan specifically restricting pregame activities, for example?).

Who will win this Saturday's game and advance to the National Championship game?

I think Ohio State. Which probably means it will be Michigan.

Will the loser also advance to the National title game?

I think if it is Ohio State, in a close game, probably. If it is Michigan, then, no. The reason being Ohio State has been, and is, rated # 1....they have farther to drop to exclude themselves from the picture. Remember, OU was in the National Championship game a few years ago, when they were second in their conference, having been absolutely crushed in the Big 12 championship game. Also, what makes whichever one loss team that gets selected any more justifiable than any of the others? Nothing. And what about Rutgers, if they win out and have no losses? All of which just goes to show how incredibily stupid this supposed National Championship is. National Champion of what, exactly? Well, turns out it's just the opinion of 150 guys or so from around the country...pretty much what you'd get if you went into Joe's Bar and randomly asked everyone there who they thought had the best season in college football (not the best team, mind you....remember voters picked Michigan a few years ago over Nebraska, even though the vast majority of those who voted for Michigan said that they thought Nebraska would soundly trounce them in a game). Why don't you hear about Joe's Bar National Champions? Well, because that particularl group doesn't happen to be press writers who have the ability to proclaim their opinion to the world. But that's the only difference. The entire thing is monumentally stupid. There is NO national champion of college football...to have a champion, you must first have a tournament, and IA college football doesn't. The problem is, we're stupid enough to believe there is. [end of rant]

Texas v. Texas A&M is not a rivalry. A&M is not a real school. Only the Aggies care about the UT/A&M game. UT doesn't care because they know they'll win. Aggies love tradition so I guess they enjoy the tradition of getting pwned by UT. No amount of "whoops" or yell leaders or the 12th Man will ever make A&M worthy of the title "University". College Station is the 7th circle of hell. Long live the 2% club!!!!

Now that I got that out of my system, ESPN lays out the Top Ten rivalries here.

#1 is OSU vs. That state that no one gives a damn about.

Who will win this Saturday's game and advance to the National Championship game?
O-H

Will the loser also advance to the National title game?
This is bigger than the National title game.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Ohio State-Michigan, it's big, ho hum. The Buckeyes'll take this year's game, thereby winning the right and the honor of playing THE State University of New Jersey-Rutgers in the national championship game. Yeah I said it, Rutgers, OSU will beat Michigan, Rutgers will run the table and then, if there is a God in heaven and/or any sense in the BCS, the two remaining major conference unbeatens will play in the National Championship game.

Hmmmm. Sounds like a rivalry to me...what else would spawn such emotion? Case proved. I will point out that during 5 years at A&M I NEVER had to suffer the humiliation of a loss to the t-sippers down the road. tongue.gif Maybe they didn't care because they just gave up? blush.gif You are aware that BEVO got its name from the 13-0 drubbing suffered by the t sippers that was burned into Varsity's hide? devil.gif

As for the game coming up (not the same since they switched it away from Thanksgiving.... sad.gif , I expect tu to win, but A&M played them very tough last year, so ya never know.

Good-bye to Texas University
So long to the Orange and the White
Good luck to the dear old Texas Aggies
They are the boys that show the real old fight
"The eyes of Texas are upon you..."
That is the song they sing so well
So good-bye to Texas University
We're going to beat you all to--

(No, I don't have any idea at all what 'Chig gar roo gar rem' means...I don't think anybody does. )

Now, how did the tsippers song go? If memory servers, it was something like

Oh Hobbes don't get me started on the single semester I spent there. I'll tell you all about how my high school friends drank the Kool-Aid. I never attended Bonfire because the thing collapsed the year prior. (my friends were supposed to be working on it during the time it collapsed...thankfully their drill instructor called it off) I went to the mug down session one time w/ my high school sweet heart and watched as the whores of babylon "flicked their Bic". It was there that I met the 2% club. Despite finding a small group of people who couldn't stand it as much as me, one semester was all I could stand. Actually attending A&M is what turned me into a huge UT fan. I now root for UT just because I know how upset the Ags get when UT wins.

OSU-Rutgers would be about 75-0 at halftime, with the third string Buckeyes in there by the third series. mrsparkle.gif Seriously, Rutgers needs to win three games to finish the season undefeated and we know either OSU or Michigan will be undefeated going into the National Championship game.

Since when is the Big East a "major conference" in football? unsure.gif

To quote Lee Corso, "Not so fast my friend!" Louisville was supposed to blow us out of the water but managed to do little to nothing against our defense. I agree OSU would win, but they would not score more than 30 points in the process.

And they need to beat Syracuse, Cincy and West Virginia to do it...Very do-able.

If I'm not mistaken [and I'm not laugh.gif ] the BIG EAST has more teams [3] in the BCS top 10 than the Big 10 [2]. hmmm.gif While we may not be better than the Big 10 top to bottom, make no mistake, we are a major conference with much more depth than say, the Big 12 this year. Think about it, we had three good teams before; Miami, VaTech and BC, we have three good teams now: THE State University of New Jersey, Louiville and West Virginia, and I'd take those three against any three teams in the ACC or Big 12.

Sorry CP, I don’t think the Knights will make it out of Morgantown undefeated. The Mountaineers dual running attack of White/Slayton will prove too much. Petrino got out coached in the second half of the Rutgers/Louisville game, Rutgers attacking defense works better against the pass than the option WVU runs.

I’d love to see it though and if Rutgers runs the table and gets denied a chance in the title game something is wrong. If college football ever moves to a playoff system, it will become the biggest sport in the country.

QUOTE(Amlord)

The only reason Mich and OSU are undefeated is because the rest of the Big 10 (they can’t even count the number of teams in their conference) is woefully weak.

Is this college football's greatest rivalry?

It’s one of the best, I’d include Notre Dame/USC, Nebraska/OK, Auburn/Bama, and KY/Tennessee (if you consider a fire hydrant and dog a rivalry!)

Who will win this Saturday's game and advance to the National Championship game?

OSU. By 10.

Will the loser also advance to the National title game?

They shouldn’t, that game will have already been played. I think Arkansas is possibly playing the best football in the country right now behind the best RB in the country, McFadden. If they beat LSU and then Florida in the SEC title game, they should get a chance.

Arkansas is well coached, their team speed is incredible and the offense is nearly unstoppable (not to mention they play in the THE best conference).

I've gotta think my boy Schiano will have something cooked up for that, in addition, usually, and especially so in the Louisville game, TSUNJ always has three or four players converging on the ball for every given play, I don't think the option is suited for a defense quite like that...I prefer to call them "swarming" not attacking. And I'm looking forward to the controversy that will ensue if Rutgers goes undefeated and gets snubbed. Oh well, "AP National Champion" Rutgers University sounds alright.

Actually, I hear ya. I didn't mind A&M, but went there as a grad student, so didn't get the whole Fish Camp indoctrination experience. So, I enjoyed the traditions, but marveled at the Kool Aid drinkers at the same time. Naturally, all the drinkers used to put down UT all the time, which is usually when I pointed out they were ranked higher than A&M in pretty much every program....that usually put me up front in the 2% bus!

You think OSU would be down by that much then? smile.gif

Which is probably just about what Louisville thought, which is also exactly why the only way one can claim to BE a national champion is to actually WIN a national championship tournament. So, hurray for whoever wins the "150 guys thought we might be the best team this year" banner...but it really means absolutely nothing more than that.

At least this game lived up to the hype!!

42-39, and although Michigan was not in a position to take the lead in the second half, it was a great game.

Ohio State overcame three turnovers (to Michigan's none) to win. It used big plays to scorch the Michigan defense for over 500 yards of offense.

Truly one of those instant classic games and Michigan made it close enough that they may remain number 2 in the polls.

Meanwhile, Rutgers excused itself from the BCS picture by getting stomped by Cincinnati 30-11.
nighttimer
thumbsup.gif Now THAT was a football game.

I disagree, Amlord that Michigan didn't have a shot to win the game in the second half. They came out like a blazing house in the third quarter and rammed the ball down the Buckeye's throat with Michael Hart's running. Woody and Bo were probably high-fiving each other in heaven. After the air show of the first half, the Wolverines got down and dirty and put their "big uglies" against our "big uglies" and just ran the ball. Nothing fancy and no finesse about it.

We were eating, joking, cursing, laughing and drinking as the kids ran back and forth and the adults acted like kids.

The fact that it was an exciting and emotional rollercoaster made this easily the best game of the year and maybe in several years.

Finally, a game that lived up to the hype. Who woulda thunk it? mrsparkle.gif

I didn't mean to imply that the outcome was never in question. But Michigan was never really in a position to take the lead (although they did have the ball in the third quarter trailing 28-21 and got the field goal to make it 28-24. They also had the ball briefly in the fourth quarter after a second fumbled snap down 35-31, but went three and out. That's as close as they got (OSU got a touchdown on yet another big play in the third quarter and a long drive in the fourth to grab back the momentum each time).

No doubt this was the most exciting game of the year (and the most watched college football game in a decade.)

I think Florida actually has a decent shot of being #2 at the end if they can beat FSU and Arkansas. USC also has a decent shot of passing up #2 Michigan (although their loss to unranked Oregon State should be a huge black mark against them).
