Full Version: Politicians that proved you wrong- in a good way
Well, I, so far, have been proven wrong about a politician I did not have much hope for- Sarah Palin, our new Governer- I just rolled my eyes when she was elected and said "oh gawd, another right wing ideologist with no idea how to run a goverment outside of what the bible told her to do"- 
- she had made several of those right wing pandering type statements too many for me to have any idea that she would be any different than our former, horrible governer.
Well, turns out, boy, so far, I have been totally wrong about her- which I am very happy to say for once.
She, first off, didn't hire party hacks for her cabinet, instead, drew from Dems, and even liberals, as long as they were considered best for the job- she immediately put the former guv's jet up for sale on E-bay, un-appointed all the oil company yes-men off the gas pipeline negotiations, and, wierdly enough, almost at the same time- we ended up with a coalition power in goverment- a group of, of all things, repubs and dems, that have locked out, basically, the remaining republicans! All the dems, and the "real" conservatives (as in fiscal conserative and libertarian in thought) - each and every one of them have thier own philosophies, but all are pragmatic get-er-done types- that don't let thier ideologies get in the way of doing what is right for the state- could have floored me with a feather! Amazing!
I think, finally, after over 20 years now of ruinous hard core right wing ideology in this state, keeping us, as a state, from doing what is right by the state, instead of right by the party or church, which, in this state, is a HUGE departure from "the usual biz of the state"-
I am a pretty cynical guy towards goverments run by republicans after all these years (Murkowski was, without a doubt, the worst governer we ever had in this state, and about 90% of the state agrees with this- he lost in the primary- as an incumbant! ) - we have not been able to settle some major, major issues- such as subsistance hunting and the gas pipeline and all that jazz-
but anyway- I have gone on and on- for once- possibly the first time,
- my cynicism has been proven wrong by the developements lately- that doesn't mean it can't go down the toilet again quickly LOL- but, for once, I am kinda hopeful these days, but I am sure that will change LOL
