AP - Duke Professor Quits Committee Assignments Over Lacrosse Players Being Invited Back
DURHAM, N.C. — A Duke University professor resigned from her committee assignments, saying she was upset by the administration's decision to invite two lacrosse players accused of sexual assault back to campus.

"The decision by the university to readmit the students, especially just before a critical judicial decision on the case, is a clear use of corporate power, and a breach, I think, of ethical citizenship," Karla Holloway, an English professor and former dean of Humanities and Social Sciences, wrote to Duke's black faculty caucus.

"Despite our judgments about the prosecutor's own lack of principled conduct, it is not ours to become the judge or subvert the process," she wrote.

Two Questions for debate:

1) Should Duke have invited the students back, and if so, why or why not?

2) Is Professor Holloway's past and present behavior regarding this subject consistent with the portions of her letter quoted above regarding ethical citizenship and not becoming the judge

Absolutely. To date, I haven't heard of any sound evidence they did anything wrong.

2) Is Professor Holloway's past and present behavior regarding this subject consistent with the portions of her letter quoted above regarding ethical citizenship and not becoming the judge

Ahhh, no? How could making such a statement be anything but judgemental? At this point, I would think Duke would have more grounds from banning Ms. Holloway from campus than they would the accused. I am curious if Ms. Holloway thinks that Duke should be in the habit of barring anyone from campus who has unfounded allegations thrown at them?

1) Duke had a coach resign and cancelled a season of LAX over these baseless allegations. These kids should have been back long ago. BTW; did the kids accept? I wouldn't have.

2) Professor Holloway is clearly working an agenda and her comments and actions against the reinstatement of the students should be disregarded as I am sure they will be.

Seems like a no-brainer. You have an opportunistic stripper looking to make some money on some ill concieved idea to accuse them of rape. I believe Kobe Bryants accuser got some pay off too?

She has changed her story several times now, the other stripper has said she lied abou the whole assault- ya, they should be let back- and the chick should be charged with felony fraud, locked up and the key thrown out, and the prosecutor fired.

2) Is Professor Holloway's past and present behavior regarding this subject consistent with the portions of her letter quoted above regarding ethical citizenship and not becoming the judge?

Let her go- she is a waste of skin. Anyone that wants to continue to persecute these fellas for a crime they obviously did not commit is not worth the paper she writes her resignation on. I suggest a one way cruise to somewhere else for her.

It is seriously not worth debating, because you lose credibility when you wish to prosecute someone that is obviously a victim of a scam, and her prior actions on whatever she has done is irrelevent to this action.

I don't know how I missed this story as I have been following the case for a while now.

Of course they have.. They have been wrongly accused, their named dragged through the mud and been all but convicted in most of the media in the United States since this came to light, at least they can go back to being students once again.

2) Is Professor Holloway's past and present behavior regarding this subject consistent with the portions of her letter quoted above regarding ethical citizenship and not becoming the judge?

This woman must be living under a rock or so far up in her own Ivory Tower that she has missed the past events of the past year. It's good to see her go..

Yes, but I'm not sure they will accept.

2) Is Professor Holloway's past and present behavior regarding this subject consistent with the portions of her letter quoted above regarding ethical citizenship and not becoming the judge?

What Professor Holloway does is her business. It's not even central to this case.

Although he has already turned the cases over to a special prosecutor, I think it would be more fitting if District Attorney Mike Nifong resigned his office, as indeed he may.
