I find it sad that the major cable news networks stay on the air during the weekend but fail to report actual news as they claim is their purpose.

For example, all weekend, Fox News has been covering, or should I say cross-promoting, their horrible show American Idol as if it were news. CNN Headline news is happy to keep reminding us that Michael Jackson and MTV had a misunderstanding regarding some dumb award.

I think these news corporations need to stop insulting their viewers' intellegence. Most of us who turn to all news channels are looking for real news NOT entertainment. I can turn on E! for that mindless dribble.

I would prefer more coverage on international/world events over this promotion of pop culture crap. I've often heard the stereotype that Americans are ignorant to the rest of the world and I get mad because I am not one of those ignorant Americans. I make a very concerned effort to be informed.

I find it is becoming more and more difficult to be informed when these all news stations refuse to report world events in lieu of garbage entertain-o-news.

So you're saying that, me, getting my news from the Daily Show on Comedy Central is a bad idea?

Jaime for a long time i would have agreed with you, and I wasn't going to reply to your post. Then I started to think about it and I'm sorry to say that in today's american culture it is news. Whether it's Julia Roberts caught smoking a joint or Billy Bob and Angelina breaking up there is a large percentage of our population that cares about this. Luckily I can say that I am not one of them. It is sad to say that Americas definition of news has come to include people that entertain us...

Limpubus-

I think you're right. I got what I deserved. I should know what I'm in for when I turn to any major cable "news" outlet. It's not the fault that these commercial entities want to make money and supplying a demand is how to succeed. The American people provide the demand for this crap news and these companies deliver.

I suppose I could rant and rave about how stupid some Americans are in their cult-like following of what's "cool" but I would be preaching to the choir. Most of you in here hate the pop culture crap as much as me. The solution is to keep the remote control handy.

The remote is the best thing you can have as long as you have 5 or 6 news channels to choose from. Hopefully they won't all be talking about the Video Music Awards.

24 hour news, 5 seconds at a time.

At least it doesn't last long for those of us too lazy to pickup the remote tongue.gif .
