Etc.

Next they'll tax love-making. huh.gif

OK short and straight to the point. Do Income Taxes violate any of our rights as US citizens?

There is an article I read awhile back stating that the required number of states did not ratify the 16th Amendment. The theory goes that this makes the income tax illegal, and you can get away with not paying it.
Have to attend a meeting right now, so if someone doesn't beat me to it, I will try and find a link and post it.

I've heard about that, there's this one guy sort of promoting it. I have also heard from other people who say the guy is a nut, and if you follow his advice you will end up in big trouble...

Until the 16th Amendment is repealed, I'd suggest paying the taxes. What the heck, you're still employed, right? My income for 2002 is laughable. Maybe things will turn in 2003, and I will be happy as a clam paying the 20-25% (overall) federal rate again.

In any case, there is nothing so pathetic as going to the slammer on tax evasion charges. Pony up and get on with life.

Yes taxes violate our rights. Our system of government was designed to protect our freedoms of life liberty and the pursuit of happiness, the language that Jefferson gleaned this from was based on John Locke. In short, our government is also a pledge to protect our property. Since the right to our property is one of our rights, we are deprived of that right a little with every tax dollar.

Our rights have to be balanced with the general welfare of the public and our legislators have to find a balance. While I wish we had a more effective public voice in spotlighting and tainting people who misuse government money, I also think we have done a pretty good job at keeping relatively low lax rates compared to many other industrialized countries, and I am willing to take my medical expense money and turn that over to the government on top of our present level of taxation.

I don't know if wiolated is the right word but I feel abused by taxes. I just can't see how money I earn gets taxed so many times. it's always blown my mind that it's taxed when given to me and then taxed when I give it to another..............
