There has been much debate about the Bush firing of 8 U.S. attorneys this month, and political reasons have been a major reason to be considered for the firings.
One of the U.S. attorneys just fired by Bush was Carol Lam, who, before she was fired, was following a lead that most likely would've led to Dick Cheney in the White House.
The run-down of the
story:
The U.S. Defense Contractor, Mitchell Wade (who was convicted of over 1 million dollars of bribery to Duke Cunningham), pled guilty approx. a year ago.
Wade's company, MZM Inc., was given a one-time $140,000 contract, on the basis it would provide furniture and computers for Dick Cheney.
Two weeks later, Wade bought a yacht for exactly 140,000$, then the same day transferred the yacht ownership to Duke Cunningham.
The price of the boat was pre-negotiated... around the same time the contract was signed.
This leads one to think that Cheney was in one way trying to bribe Cunningham, and although the reasons are not known and are being speculated upon, may lead to further action into the White House.
The questions for debate:
Is this evidence of bribery and/or corruption (disregarding past events) within the White House and Cheney?
If yes, explain why, and whether or not Cheney will be subpoenaed in a further investigation?
If no, explain why not.
Also, is the fact Carol Lam was investigating into what could've led to the White House the reason for her firing?
