I think that there will be no resolution voted on. I think some very odd (maybe not so odd) back-room deals were made.

France, Russia, and Germany announce together that any resolution authorizing force will be vetoed. This before Blix makes his report, but heck, the inspections have been irrelevant all along, right?

Anyway, this will free us from waiting for a UN vote. The war will re-commence next week.

There is also some strong speculation afloat that UBL will be taken soon. Maybe a matter of days. That would be a tremendous momentum boost for us as we enter this battle.

Anyone care to comment on why the intention to veto was announced today?

Many people (including, sadly Hans Blix) have mis-interpretted the UN weapons inspectors' job. They are NOT there to search for WMD. They are supposed to be there looking for evidence that he DESTROYED the WMD that we know he possessed.

Saddam agreed to PRO-ACTIVELY help these guys. He has not.

No, they are just doing the wrong job.

Quick question: We know that Saddam at some point possessed WMD. He now claims that he no longer has them. Where is the evidence that he destroyed them? Where? There must be some report saying...Anthrax container xyz421 thru xyz 999 were incinerated today following Presidential order 1234. To say: yeah, they're gone, but we don't have any evidence is unacceptable. No one would be stupid enough to not document EXACTLY what was done, procedurally. The evidence of the destruction is not there, because it was never done.

THAT is what the inspectors are supposed to try to dig up...any evidence that the WMDs were destroyed. Their mission is not to locate the WMDs.

I agree, i think that every presidental office ( although hes a dictator ) should keep track of such events as destruction. Why not allow the weapon inspectors see documents rather than words?

He gave the Weapons Inspectors documents on where to fidn the anthraz & Vx gas but that was 3 weeks ago & i haven't seen a headline saying that they have found the anthraz/vx gas

Where is it? it must have "mysteriously" disappeared.

Good post. All governments, even dictatorships are bureaucracies. If these WMD were destroyed as Iraq contends, there would have been a mountain of paper generated by the Iraqi military, who would have been destroying these weapons.

Where is this paperwork?

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - The head of the U.N. nuclear agency on Friday shot down allegations Iraq tried to revive its nuclear arms program and said fake documents backed U.S. claims Baghdad had tried to buy uranium to make bombs....

The claim Iraq had attempted to import the uranium was vital to the U.S. accusation, since it would not have needed the uranium for anything other than a nuclear weapons program.

"After three months of intrusive inspections, we have to date found no evidence or plausible indication of the revival of a nuclear weapons program in Iraq," he said.

OUCH...Now it looks like we're liars too. (I use the word we very loosely here). dry.gif

I watched this report and I did note that he said accusations were unfounded a few times...I missed the part about fake document's though. I could have been blow-drying my hair.

ElBaradei said extensive investigations of high-strength aluminum tubes Iraq attempted to purchase had confirmed that they were not suitable for a uranium enrichment centrifuge program, as the United States had alleged....

Knocking down another U.S. allegation, ElBaradei said IAEA experts had concluded that none of Iraq's declared high- strength magnets could be used directly to enrich uranium.

All the wasted hours that we heard about these stupid tubes on the news. dry.gif

Of course Bush supporters would never admit that he wants to go to war so badly he would do anything and say anything. I think he and Saddam are both liars. The only thing I'm surprised at is that U.S. News had the gut's to run the story. Not that anyone cares that this is all based on lies. us.gif
