Let me join in wishing all mothers a joyous day of appreciation!

However, at the risk of interjecting some political coloring into the celebration, let me remind everyone that Mothers' Day was originally promoted as a Mothers' Day of Peace. The world today certainly needs a strong organization of mothers dedicated to preventing future wars.

You may be aware that the first Mother’s Day celebration in 1872 was called “Mother’s Peace Day.” Julia Ward Howe, author and activist, penned the “Mother’s Day Proclamation,” calling on women to rise up and challenge the devastating war machine. Howe was outraged over the carnage of the American Civil War and the Franco-Prussian War.

Well you did interject something political and would kindly ask you to remove it from this thread. That is the reason I put this in casual conversation.

Mother's Day is always a mixed bag for me.

My mom died of pneumonia in December of 1993. She had suffered Alzheimer's disease for about nine years and had been in a nursing home for about 7.5 years. I miss her, but was relieved when her suffering ended.

My best wishes to all the women on ad.gif who are mothers, who have mothers, who have had mothers or will someday be mothers. I hope I didn't leave anyone out. wub.gif heart.gif flowers.gif
