Hello to all here at America’s Debate. I look forward to engaging in various forms of discourse with members; those who will agree with me and those who do not share my opinion.

I describe myself as a staunch conservative Republican, a label I have associated with myself for about two-and-a-half years from when I first got interested in politics and the issues behind them. After not really having much knowledge on politics and the differences between the parties and ideologies, I took it upon myself to research politics and determine exactly where I fit in after watching the news and wanting to know what was really meant by words such as “conservative,” “liberal,” “Republican,” and “Democrat.” My discovery has led me to where I am now: a proud proponent of conservatism.

I believe that conservatism is defined by the desire to maintain the physical, moral, and economic security of the nation. Additionally, I believe that common sense and tradition must not be abandoned.

I enjoy Sean Hannity, writing about my opinions, and defending what is – at least in my opinion – the right path America should follow today and in the future.

On a personal and non-political note, I am a Pittsburgh Steelers fan, and as a writer, promise to only use proper grammatical English. There’s just something, in my mind at least, that keeps me up at night when I see improper capitalization (or lack thereof), slang, or improper use of commas. I admit I may be a little obsessed with it; I have been known to hit the spell check button when sending instant messages.

I hope that you have been able to get to know me better. I look forward to my experiences here at America’s Debate.

I love reading that. I can be obsessed with editing, too. It actually pains me when I see people who don't care enough about their own writing to make it grammatically beautiful. It's nice to meet others who share this.

Glad you joined! smile.gif

Hi cptsteel31!

Welcome to ad.gif.

So here's a grammar question for you. It's one of my pet peeves.

The word "emails." Is it or is it not a word? To me, it's not a word-- "email" is the plural of "email."

"I'm going to the mailbox to check the mail." Mail is plural. You wouldn't say, "I'm going to the mailbox to check my mails."

"I'm logging in to check my emails." Shouldn't this be, "I'm logging in to check my email?"

Eh, I'm probably not making much sense.

Welcome!

Mike

Ok..

Here are a couple of threads that might interest you.

I started the first and Wertz started the other.

Although I sympathize with you cptsteel31, I think fighting grammar wars on the net is a lost cause. ermm.gif

Mike,

Some older dictionaries will not address this. I have The New Oxford American Dictionary, 2005.

Oxford's preferred spelling is "e-mail," but "email" is acceptable. For plural usage Oxford uses the example, "I got three e-mails today."
