The best overall debater ....... simple question, difficult to answer due to the fact that there are so many good debaters on this site.
My favourite debaters are Vermillion, Julian, Wertz, Nighttimer, Mrs. Pigpen, Bof, Paladine Elspeth and Moif.
If I have to choose one I will pick ......
Moif. I have personally debated him on various occassions and I am always delighted how he pushes me into defending, explaining and questioning my own views. He does this in a polite and intelligent way. I hope to have many more discussions with you in the future
Moif.

Definitely Moif. Soon after he had his first child I saw a wisdom come alive in him like I had never seen in anyone before.

I'm torn between nominating turnea and nighttimer. Because I've nominated nighttimer before, I will go with turnea this time around. (Sorry nighttimer
We've have our first woman Speaker of the House and possibly our first woman president on the horizon. Maybe a woman's time has come for this honor.
I made this nomination last year or the year before and had to withdraw it, so I'm coming back with it.
I nominate Lesly.
She works as hard at making well-thought-out posts as anyone and provides good sources to back up her posts. Unlike some, she limits her presence - that is not having to post one every thread. Further, I have seen no evidence that she just has just has to have the last word on every thread. She makes an impact without overdoing it.

Gee Moif I hate to correct you but you're totally wrong. Moif is the Best Overall Debater. You should really read what Moif is posting more often.

An extraordinarily difficult choice. I'll go with nighttimer.

I started with a list of ten, trimmed it to five and settled on one.
There were no shortage of qualified candidates, but this is the year
BoF brought it. He really kicked major tush in '06-07.
Best Overall Debater? Shouldn't this be called the
Wertz Lifetime Achievement Award?

This has to be one of the toughest choices - even for drawing up a shortlist. Ultimately, though, I had to go with the combination of passion, reason, research, style, and overall knowledge that has been the hallmark of nighttimer's contributions for several years now. For posts that are consistently stimulating, entertaining, informative, and just damned readable, I have to go with nighttimer. (If I'd needed any more convincing, he's also endorsed by one of my top runners-up: Vicki.)
I second nighttimer.

In my experience as a reader (mostly) on this site, I have found that debaters are more able to sway my judgment when their approach is not cynical or heavy handed. Quarkhead exemplifies a debater that is adept at making an argument without alienating those with opposing views, thus opening their minds to a different perspective.

For consistently making me say to myself 'why didn't I think of that?' - I'm going with
Mrs. Pigpen.

I'm consistently impressed not so much by the clarity and presence of Nighttimer's debate -- that too -- but his willingness to stick it out in the same forum over and over again, even when the other posters have completely missed, ignored, or misunderstood his point -- or clearly haven't even read his posts.
And he seems to have good taste in humor columnists.

I agree with the other nominees, but I'd like to nominate Amlord for convincing, insightful posts that get right to the heart of the matter.

Maybe you should just give Mrs. Pigpen a Lifetime Achievement award.
