I suppose that once one gets on the list of active Democrats the phone starts ringing. Usually the caller is asking for a donation for one or another of the candidates .I’m now using my answering machine to screen calls. They usually come up “name unnown/number unknown” and callers have yet to leave me any kind of message. In 2004, I gave some money to John Kerry’s campaign twice - after he received the nomination.

The problem I am having with the calls this year (I sometimes get maybe five in a day, even on Sunday) are threefold.

1. Requests for funds is starting early.
2. I don’t have any dislike for any particular candidate, although I like some better than others.
3. Being retired and having a limited income, I am saving my contribution for whoever gets the Democratic nomination.

Question for debate:

1. Do you think it’s more important to provide support in the primaries, the general election or both?

The primary nominee is essentially decided by the time the primary eletion hits my state. I don't lend support in regards to physical effort or donation until after that is decided. I have voted for a candidate who wasn't the "winner" in the primary as I thought they were the best candidate, that, and sometimes it's a protest vote of sorts. With the general election, I send in money via the net monthly and work with county democrats to get signs, stickers, and rides to go. Election day is almost nirvana like for me, I just love all the partying and watching republicans cringe when their majority melts away. mrsparkle.gif
