This news article upsets me in a number of ways.

1) That a court would actually ban any kind of video game. The ban is on "violent" video games, but what constitutes violent and who makes that decision?

2) The thought of some people, that violent video games make for violent children.

Topics for debate:

- Why are games any different than movies, books, tv or anything else glorifying violence?

- Is it the countys responsibility to make sure children are not exposed to violence, or the parents?

- By law, all video games have to have a rating stamped on the front. Similar to movie ratings, these rating describe the recommended age level of the player, and what kind of content the game contains. So is that not enough? Are parents or gov't responsible for reading the ratings and approving them "safe for kids"

- I'm an avid game player. Which might make me biased in some ways. But I grew up playing violent games. Sure, they didn't have the amount of gore that they do now, but the shock factor was the same. The first time I played Wolfenstein (the original, early 1990) and saw the pixelated blood fly, it turned my stomach a little. But then...why have I, or why will I never, be a violent adult even though I was exposed to violent games?

your thoughts?
