As part of a series of threads about separate parts of the Isreal debate, I am introducing a thread to debate the foreign policy of the United States in regards to Israel and the it's immediate neighbors.

The questions for debate are:

What is the United States present role been in terms of foreign policy and aid for Israel and its surrounding neighbors (including the Palestinians)?

Is the United States foreign policy in the area (Iraq being a separate issue) all things considered serving the greater interests of humanity? How and why? or How and why not?

Is the present United States foreign policy in regards to Israel a practical foreign policy that serves the best interests of the United States?

We support Israel – unquestionably. At the same time we give billions to Egypt and other states, and millions to the Palestinians.

Who knows? We could crush Israel and give it all back to the Palestinians – would that be better than the current situation? We could try to force Israel to give the Palestinians a state – no luck so far.

Yes and no. It is certainly a major reason we are hated in the ME. On the other hand Israel is a true ally in a key area of the world.
