I can hardly stop laughing after watching the House dealing with Dennis Kucinich's Resolution to Impeach Cheney. House leader immediately submitted a table resolution on the Kucinich resolution... a fifteen minute vote followed that lasted well over an hour as house leadership had a cold sweat as an overwhelming majority overturned the table action. Later the House leader offered a hold your breath resolution to send the action to the Justice Committee (because it was such an important issue)... the house Dem's held with the leadership.

The Republican leadership begged to debate the Kucinich resolution so they could activate the far left within the Democratic party... now it is up to Dennis to call the House members turncoats!

Question for Debate: The Republicans begged to debate the issue of the impeachment of the VP so why did House leadership not welcome this debate?

Will Dennis Kucinich keep this issue in the news and force the House leadership to send it out of the Judiciary Committee to the floor?

Gee, I wonder why? hmmm.gif Could it be for the same reason that people here, so many of whom are quick to blame Cheney for anything and everything they don't like don't want to address this topic. Perhaps one of them might fill us in on why this is? I have my suspicions, but I'd like to hear their reasons first. Not holding my breath though.

Oh, I hope so, I dearly hope so. With the WGA strike going on we need comedy in primetime somewhere, somehow. There's nothing funnier than a whacklib in the news. laugh.gif

Go Dennis, GO! thumbsup.gif

Question for Debate: The Republicans begged to debate the issue of the impeachment of the VP so why did House leadership not welcome this debate?

If one reads the Fox article, it's plain as day. The Repubs are afraid that the Demos might win a few points for bringing up the subject. They at first voted against the debate, then changed their minds and voted for it. Now the Repub talking heads are trying to blame the Demos for wasting time. I interpret it as, "Shut up and give us money!"

Also, one will notice that the House leadership wanted to kill this thing and get on with real business. That almost happened too. Now it's just the politics of spin. An election season is well underway.

That's what he wants. It's his way of making people pay attention to the buildup toward the military attacks on Iran. It has made Fox news, so maybe more people will and those who might count.

Looks like Cheney is just a foil for the real message, which is to be very careful what you believe from this administration. They tend to exaggerate situations, to put it mildly. It would be good to question Cheney and crew before the bombs drop.

It's interesting that the Repubs helped out so much. Kinda reminds me of Trading Places.

Isn't it great that the Writers' Guild put the clamps on popular late night television? Guess we know now what makes or breaks our entertainment. No jokes, no viewership, no sales. And people might read more in the interim. But anyway, looks like Kucinich knows how to stir things up. Maybe it'll help avoid a needless war.

Dennis Kucinich is something of a quack. Flying saucers and what not. The Dems do not want to look like they're following him in any way. It's a smart strategy not to. The Repubs smelling blood changed tack and attacked. The Dems now have the choice appearing to back Kucinich and thus marginalize themselves with mainstream America or turn their backs on him and the Kos Kids/Moveon.org folks.

The Dems are in a tough spot on this. They can only hope Kucinich quiets down on this and it goes away.

Here is another perspective on this line of thought.

Early in Oct. the Speaker of the House was saying this:
QUOTE
"Four or five months (protesters were) sitting outside my home," Pelosi told reporters at the lunch. "Going into my garden in San Francisco and angering my neighbors, hanging their clothes from the trees, building all kinds of things - I don't know, Buddhas? I don't know what they were - couches, sofas, chairs, permanent living facilities... on my sidewalk.
"Just imagine my neighbors' reaction to all of this. If they were poor and they were sleeping on my sidewalk, they would be arrested. But because they have 'Impeach Bush' across their chest, it's the First Amendment."

Wow, I guess Cindy Sheehan has another bus load on the way over to her house right now! The vote was probably held open so long so Nancy could order more Port-a-potties for her west coast home lawn.

Then this:
QUOTE
"Dennis Kucinich is on a quest of his own. He sees flying saucers and he acts like one, too" HEY, I AGREE WITH DON SURBER: THE ALCEE HASTINGS QUOTE IS THE *PERFECT* TITLE.

http://www.crosstabs.org/stories/congress/...ts_like_one_too

How many of Kucinich resolution resolution co-sponsors did Representative Hastings anger? How stupid do those Co-sponsors look when they stood quietly by as the resolution was sent to the committee to be sealed tight in a can? I would guess the Republicans accomplished exactly what they desired.

The Republicans wanted to debate the resolution because they wanted to add a couple dozen Democrats to the complaints that Kucinich has made on the VP, the press would be rolling in the isles.

This will rip the Democratic Party totally apart and the Presidential candidates will be asked to either support Kucinich or abandon him and his co-sponsors, it a gift that just keeps on giving!

I bet Leader Hoyer's fat cold heart almost had an attack.

I hesitate to bump this thread, in that it is one of the worst ever started on ad.gif.

Dennis Kucinich is currently riding a tidal wave of 2 to 3% among Democratic candidates.

There is very little reason to think that a statement by a barely-on-the-charts Democratic candidate and an unpopular Republican VP, with 14 months left in office, will be on voter’s minds in November, 2008.

Far from being a “gift that just keeps on giving” it is seems like Republican are already lofting “Hail Mary” passes a year before the election.

I don’t quite know what you mean by this. If you are referring to Steny Hoyer’s anatomy, one only has to think of former speaker Dennis Hastert in comparison. Then again this statement may be, as I suspect, just low octane rhetoric.

It takes guts to answer this thread and I congratulate you on a smooth comeback! I have an open thread that no one has answered that deals with a problem that Senator Clinton had a little problem on and lost standing speaking to Americans tolerance to Illegals. Apparently no one thinks Illegal Immigration is important either, but with Hillary's double speech answer she lost points when speaking to NY drivers licenses. How do you think she could properly answer a question about whether she supports a VP Impeachment or not? Nancy Pelosi already has the far left planning to overthrow her parked in her lawn. If Hillary stands with Nancy on the VP she loses the far left votes IMO.

Dennis gave his one minute speech today on the VP, you should of been there.

Well I wasn't in Washington today. Glad you were. As I said, Dennis Kucinish is irrelevant to much of anything and I do not detect a groundswell of sympathy for Dick Cheney that will make this a campaign issue.

Maybe we should debate those issues there, assuming anyone is interested, instead of here.

First of all, it is not my intention to reply to this quote specifically - it's just the best quote to introduce my humble defense of Kucinich. This kind of characterization seems to come fairly equally from both sides, so I'm just throwing this out there for everyone.

I've lived in DK's district for a number of years (It's basically the quiet suburban side of Cleveland, well educated, plenty of money). He is in very little danger of being beaten anytime soon, and it's not because we would miss the entertainment if he were gone. It's because he doesn't reek of baloney the way almost every other congressperson on either side of the aisle does. You can be pretty certain that what comes out of his mouth is something he truly believes. And more often than not, he's right. He was against Iraq, for one. (And he's right about Cheney, too, if you believe that fabricating grounds for initiating a war to be an impeachable offense.) When you hear about his time as Mayor of Cleveland, all you hear about is that the city defaulted. What you don't hear is that Cleveland defaulted because Kucinich inherited a financial mess, yet he didn't bend to heavy political pressure from business powers to privatize the municipal power company (which kept prices down). Say what you want, but the guy has one of the few backbones in Washington. And if he says he saw a UFO, I believe he did. If Nancy Pelosi was standing right next to him at the time and saw the same thing, she'd never have the guts to admit it.

He's not really a quack. He's just honest to the point of being a political hot potato, and the Dems should probably follow his lead more often. Including now, in his quest to impeach a man who really deserves to be impeached.

(And really, is George Bush any less delusional?)

Good points. DK probably believes that Cheney will get Iran going before leaving office. I have that worry too.

As delusions go, I don't think the Republicans have anything to crow about. DK says he saw a UFO. GWB said he saw WMD. Cheney said he saw the end of the insurgency. Of all three, the only one I believe is DK. So he saw a UFO? Lots of people say they have seen them. I have no reason to doubt their honesty, but I sure do when it comes to Dick Cheney. That guy can't tell a stretch from a fib from a bald-faced lie.

Whatever. DK may have turned some heads toward the buildup to Iran. Others are locked in place no matter what. Some apparently think this is a football game.

Well, that makes me a quack too. Me and some friends when I was about 15 (somewhere around 1975) watched something - I have no idea what type of craft it was - hover over Arbutus, Maryland so long, that we got bored and went back to doing whatever it was were up to. It was not a blimp, balloon, or anything resembling any type of known aircraft. It was huge and stayed in one spot for at least a half hour. It never made any noise coming or going.

I don't claim to be the smartest guy around, but I consider myself to have a reasonable amount of intelligence. I don't believe in any tin-foil hat type of conspiracies either. But that day, I saw something that was either from another world or a secret type of military aircraft that felt a need to hover over an area that had no strategic value whatsoever and has not been seen since.

No other object as been misidentified as a flying saucer more often than the planet Venus.

Your scientists have yet to discover how neural networks create self-consciousness, let alone how the human brain processes two-dimensional retinal images into the three-dimensional phenomenon known as perception. Yet you somehow brazenly declare seeing is believing?

Some alien encounters are hoaxes perpetrated by your government to manipulate the public. Some of these hoaxes are intentionally revealed to manipulate the truth-seekers who become discredited if they disclose the deliberately absurd deception.

You saw Venus!
