I was curious if there was an ignore feature that would allow you to add member names so that when you view a thread you will not see their posts?

Lately I have been seeing many posts that are void of any substance and was wondering if there is a way(or going to be a way) to have these posts not even appear if you had that user on your ignore list.

No, there isn't such a feature.

However, if you see posts that are devoid of content, please use the Report function to report them to the moderating team. If one or more posters consistently are posting such unconstructive content, they will be dealt with.

I dunno... I think a Squelch button would be a really nice feature.

Couldn't disagree more.

I'm with Amlord - if the content of the messages you dislike is against ad.gif rules (which includes posts that are just non-constructive) then report them, and ad.gif will be a better place.

If the posts conform to the rules, but you just don't like what they say or how they say it, then that's your problem, and not ad.gif's.

If there was functionality to blot out everything from people you don't like or opinions that you disagree with, then ad.gif would stop being a debate board and start being a "nothing that's likely to shake my world view or proffer any views that are appreciably different from my own" board.

Such things already exist. They're called diaries. Or, more controversially, the traditional media; isn't that why people choose to watch Fox News, the BBC or read the New York Times? Because such outlets mostly confirm what they someone already thinks rather than challenging them in any way?

I disagree as well. There would be many posts responding to points made by someone you've ignored that make no sense to you. Then the thread gets derailed because you didn't know the complete context of the response you have a problem with.

As long as someone is playing by the rules, I have no right to say who is and who isn't annoying because that would be the pot calling the kettle black. We need to understand people are different. Credible posters who have an opposing opinion get my full attention every post. Conversely, people that have nothing but cheap talking points, are partisan hacks, and provide nothing but blog-type rants get little - if any - of my attention.

Guess I'll jump on the band wagon and say such would be a bad idea

on a lighter note I guess it makes sense that a conservative thought this one up. I mean it's kind of hard to cover your ears and scream "LA-LA-LA-LA-LA-LA-LA-LA-LA-LA" to words on a computer screen

Didn't notice it before, but there is a PM blocker. Amazing what happens when you look around a bit more. wink.gif

I think an ignore feature would be incongruent with the very purpose of a debate board.
