Many times, republicans will point out that Lincoln was the party of the African-American and downtrodden. However, the GOP of 1861 certainly wasn't the GOP of 1961, let alone 2007. The infamous southern strategy was an purposeful, intended strategy to exploit white ethnic resentment and hatred against minorities. Nixon had his silent majority plan, while George H. W. Bush used Willie Horton to race bait. David Duke chose to run as a republican, and it if walks like a duck...... whistling.gif Immigration is a new card, but not so new really. The new racism is similar to the old racism, it's just couched with different phraseology that masks the true meaning of discrminiatory policy. Children are left behind after a raid?, who cares!. Meatpackers get injured, let 'em bleed!. Tom Tancredo is the new darling of the anti-immigration crowd, though such policies could backfire on the GOP. I believe that New Mexico, Arizona, California, and Texas will give them a rude surprise one of these election cycles.

Questions for debate:

1.)What is THE reason as to why minorities overwhelmingly support the democrats over the republicans?

2.)Is unfriendly minority policies of the GOP an intentional or unintentional creation?

3.)Will the GOP ever overcome the insensitive, xenophobic, hateful, race-baiting tactics that they are traditionally famous for?
