I think it is possible that there is a terrorist in america waiting for the right time to do whatever he/she/they plan to do

That is why they raised the level of alertness on the scale & have a guy who is on the run & needs to be caught immediatly
Mrs. Pigpen
My goodness, I would expect there are plenty of potential terrorists here. There are hundreds of scenarios I can think of for the mentally disturbed who want to die for whatever cause. Our borders aren't very well defended from the south, you know?
linkmaxwell
Actually, our border to the north is more vunerable. The US and Canada have the world's longest unprotected border...
Ultimatejoe
Unprotected simply refers to the fact that there are no walls or fences. The border is well protected and so far there has been no evidence that it poses a vulnerability to U.S. security; despite what Hilary Rodham Clinton would have you believe.
unabomber
it is easy to get through the canada-america border. this is how alot a pot smugglers get it from there to here. (put it on a boat, cross a lake, leave it in a forest somewhere with a GPS transmitter and havce someone here pick it up)

but it isn't just the north border that is porous, it is both, because despite fences and walls many still come in by way of mexico.

are there terrorists in america. yes, no doubt about it. will they strike soon? don't know, I don't have full info. and not all are arabs or muslims either. an israeli women was stopped at la guardia airport with a gasmask and a vial of white powder. (la guardia terminal evacuated--la guardia powder incident--(This seems to be the same story which was initially reported, then removed, on CNN. This version says the powder was harmless, but fails to say why the screeners still had to be decontaminated. Note that in this version of the story, the powder was found in a checked bag and the woman was on the plane before she could be questioned.)powdery substance found at new yorks la guardia--suspicious substance probed at la guardia and even more here: http://www.whatreallyhappened.com under "incident at laguardia")

I have a relative who works with people from the NYC Department of Health. He told me that those feild tests used to determine if something is a biological or chemical agent are notoriously innacurate, and that the stuff was almost certainly not anthrax, but a lab test would be needed. But, decontamination is standard, because it's better to be safe than sorry. I mean, if you had possibly been exposed to antrax, woudl you want to wait for results to come back from a lab before you got decontaminated?

Also, the Israeli government has issued gas masks to all it's citizens, so I'm not suprised she had one.

I'd take any white powder reports with a grain of salt (no pun intended) anyways. It has settled down somewhat, but the frequency with which people found "mysterious" white powder after the first scare was mind-boggling.

My personal favourite was a report of Anthrax in a trailer-park.

Are there terrorists in America, I don't doubt it. They just may not realize they're terrorists yet.

Of course we have terrorists in the United States. Remember Tim McVeigh and Oklahoma City? Everyone thought it must have been some ME terrorist at first.

Then there was the kid with the pipe bombs in mailboxes.

Shoot, we don't need to import them. We have our own. We've always had our own.

Heard a report on NPR some weeks back about the US Customs agents who work the NW border. They nabbed a terrorist who was heading toward LA to blow up something. Found the explosives in his trunk. Their staff had not been increased or been better funded through the war on terror. This was just routine stuff for them.

Anyway, the point is that we've been living with terror all along. Some folks have just recently awoken to that fact of life and are realizing now that not a whole lot can be done to prevent it.

Welcome to the real world, folks. ph34r.gif

What are you talking about? This makes no sense to me.
Ultimatejoe
Izzdari has suggested that the people behind the bombings in OK city were connected to ME terrorists.

I am a little confused as to what some people here are calling terriorists. The unabomber and the guy with the pipe bombs to me are not terrorists. I thought of terrorists as a group from a country unhappy with the U.S.. I think of those 2 individuals as nuts cases. Please inform me. I could and probably am way off base here. blush.gif blush.gif blush.gif
Ultimatejoe
A terrorist is typically defined by motives, intent and methods, not by nationality.
AuthorMusician
I'll agree with "nut cases" being different from terrorists using cold logic. However, the results tend to be similar. The dangers are similar.
