Congressional investigations into areas that seem outside of their jurisdiction are becoming more common.

What do you think about the government's investigation into what happens in professional sports?

Use of steroids is against the law. Shouldn't that investigation be left to the FBI?

The spying issue with the New England Patriots concerns violations of league rules, not violation of the law. Shouldn't investigation be conducted solely by the NFL?

I have often wondered how Congress has oversight in professional sports (also a private industry) in how they handle internal policies. Is there a governmental department that regulates athletes similarly to the way the FDA regulates the pharmaceutical industry in the United States? I am not aware of such an agency, but with the size and scope of our current government, I would not be surprised!

They are unconstitutional, offensive wastes of taxpayer money designed to boost the ego and visibility of some of our more self-centered representatives [Arlen Spector, Waxman, etc.] Jesus Christ the audacity..Arlen Spector was curious as to why Roger Goodell destroyed some tapes that were property of the NFL...So he called him to DC. What an obscene abuse of power. And for the record, I hate the Patriots and would also like to know why those tapes were destroyed...but that doesn't make it a Federal issue.

Yes.

Of course, any Federal involvement is grossly and obviously unconstitutional.

I think the idea was that Goodell asked the Patriots for all copies of the tapes and if he destroyed them and more showed up, he'd have more to go after the Patriots with. No real sense keeping them anyway.
