I think this belongs here becuase its not really a topic of debate (I don't think). But every time we vote for a president the news media comes out with these genealogy studies letting us know who each candidate is related to. I was just wondering if anyone has any idea why they do this and does anyone care?

Maybe people cared at some point... but I think it's more that the media needs to find novel things to say about the candidates to keep their viewers from falling asleep... or worse, turning the channel.

Frankly a candidate whose family is traceable enough to have been part of the ruling elite since the inception of the nation is not really the person I want to vote for anyway. I mean, of course I base my vote on policies and ideals, but that would be a mark against them, I think.
