As of right now, one of the following three people could potentially become the future "First Lady".

(in alphabetical order)
Bill Clinton
Cindy McCain
Michelle Obama

Who do you think would make the best First Lady? (And why?)

It's interesting, doomed, that both the first and last names line up alphabetically. tongue.gif

I voted for Michelle Obama. I sense in her the spirit of a tigress, who cannot and will not be tamed by public opinion.

Look at the second definition of "tigress."

Beware! Michelle Obama is not for the faint-hearted souls that Bush and Cheney have scared out of their minds.

I am amused at the thought that Bill Clinton would be the first (husband, gentleman?) The guy has always wanted to be loved and it would be a hoot to see him bowing out of the limelight and staying congenial and gracious. You had best believe he would have more influence then previous spouses of sitting Presidents but it would make some great material for comics. I really miss the comedy relief of Dan Quayle and honestly think that while the world beat up on Hillary that her husband in the background hosting dinners and socializing with heads of state would just be hilarious. I could be wrong but I see some potential for a couple of laughs.

Bill isn't a lady, so he wouldn't work too well; Michelle has little sense of decorum and lacks social graces; so, that leaves Cindy. She at least appears polite.

Ron Paul will not be on the ballot in November. Ralph Nader is not married, something you could have found out had you done a little research.

And you apparently lack both civility and social graces. Your capacity to be boorish, disrespectful and impolite is obviously unlimited.

Then again your antipathy toward Michelle Obama is no surprise. Strong Black women intimidate weak White men.

How do you read invisible ink? w00t.gif Wynona Ryder was not in doomed_planet's original poll or thread.

If you are not willing or are not able to debate this in a civil and mature manner, do not post in this topic.

Apparently, they intimidate weak black men too.
Study

In your haste to kneecap the white community you forgot that important little fact.

Onto the question at hand, the First Lady is an irrelevant position in government. I want the First Lady to be hot. Call me a man. We will have the best looking first lady if either Cynthia McCain or Michelle Obama have that opportunity. That's all that's really important in a First Lady.

Fact?

As someone who has been married to a strong Black woman for over 20 years and whose parents were married for over 40 years I don't give a damn about your "fact." Bigots have always fallen back upon science and statistics for "proof" of Black pathology. In your ardor to defend racism and sexism, you only reveal your own belief in both, barnaby2341.

The fact that you would even try to cover up quick's prejudiced misogyny with some irrelevant and worthless study only reveals the shallowness of your own argument, barnaby2341. But I'm glad to see quick's "conservative racism" has found a spiritual soulmate in your own "liberal racism." It seems the threat of a Black First Lady is enough to pull the bigots together despite their differing political agendas.

How about instead of calling you a man I just call you a sexist because that's all your extremely puerile statement indicates you are?

The First Lady may not have any Constitutionally mandated powers, but neither should she be objectified like a waitress at Hooter's. dry.gif

Seriously. We need to be civil and focused in this topic or we close it.

In an attempt to get us back on track, I might point out that First Ladies, since Martha Curtis Washington, have not only impacted their husbands, but the era in which they served.

As with presidents, historians have done some rankings of first ladies based on a number of qualities.

In my opinion, this thread deserves serious consideration.

In response to those who have argued that Bill Clinton isn't a lady, I would point out that doomed_planted rather subtly acknowledged this by putting the word "lady" in quotation marks. flowers.gif

The Democratic nominee is getting my vote, so if it's Obama I welcome the first black First Lady.

I don't defend racism or sexism, I respond to it. Your statement about the fearful white man cowering in the awesome presence of the superior black female is an intentionally racist comment. Quick wrote an opinion you didn't like. He wrote nothing of her color, yet you responded with racist hurtful statements.

You are completely invested in Obama. That much is clear. However, you need to stop taking every criticism of Obama personally and assuming racism. Michelle Obama has made condemning statements about America, statements that I agree with, but statements that many Americans will consider offensive and rude. Quick is one of those people. Quick still lives in in a fantasy land, but hey...whatever. Instead of assuming his comments are racist, you should probably explain to him why Michelle Obama's statements are truthful.

The First Lady is treated like a child with A.D.D. Here! Play with this foundation for dolphins and wear something brown or grey and don't show any skin. Right, I'm the sexist.

Thank you, kindly, BoF. The term is meant to encompass whichever gender happens to fill the role of spouse of the president.

I would love to see Bill Clinton take on the role of the First "Lady." biggrin.gif It would be interesting to watch him redefine the role, as I'm quite sure he would.

But if not Bill, I guess my second choice would be Michelle Obama. I would guess that she would be less like Laura Bush and more like Hillary Clinton in terms of how she views herself within the context of her position, which is more to my liking. I prefer a more outgoing and decisive First Lady.

As for Cindy McCain. I am only basing my estimation on the few press junkets I've seen her on. She seems to fall more in step with the demeanor of someone like Laura Bush, which isn't a bad thing, it's just her style.
