I'm not sure if any of you have come across this, but I got a little mailer in my last Amazon shipment for Cell Phones for Soldiers. It's essentially a cell phone recycling program, the proceeds from which go to sending phone cards to our troops overseas. As I'm now living in an area without coverage, I just shipped three of them off. They're looking for phones in any condition, with or without batteries, and you can print out a pre-paid mailer at their web site (though they encourage you to pay for the postage, if possible). Cool project.

I think I mentioned Books for Soldiers here a couple of years ago. If anyone knows of any similar programs, let me know!

It is a very cool project, Wertz, started by a couple of high school kids. I saw an interview with them a couple of months ago on the Today Show (I think). Once again, ordinary people doing extraordinary things. thumbsup.gif

Agreed- I have at least five of them, I don't use- I will send them off tomorow- thanks for the heads up!

It is indeed a great idea. I bought a cell phone when I first got here, for convenience though a little pricey. I just tapped into an AT&T card that I've had in my wallet. It carries 1250 minutes stateside, which translates into 109 minutes calling from Baghdad to the states. So soldiers go through quite a few cards, and they're not cheap either. Great charitable project!

Well hot dog on a cold stick- I am happy to help then. I was wondering why I never threw them darn things away.

thumbsup.gif I just got a new cell phone this week and was planning to drop the old one in a recycling box at work. Now it can serve a more worthwhile purpose.

Thanks for the heads-up, Wertz.

Thanks for the heads up.

Another worthwhile cause is run by soldier's angels "Project Valour IT" - they configure laptops with voice activation for soldiers who are unable to type. I believe that they take laplop donations in case you need to recycle an obsolete windows Vista machine smile.gif
