Ralph Nader has announced his candidacy. There are some that believe he can win due to corruption of two main political parties, incumbents not popular, officials don't have plans to solve economy & war in Iraq. Others believe he can't win due to media not very much covering his campaign.

So my question is: can Ralph Nader win or will he lose?

I think Ralph Nader will win. The failures of Hurricane Katrina and the Democrats refusal to impeach Bush will influence many voters to vote for Nader.

I really don’t think this is a serious thread, but I'll give you a serious answer.

No! He can't win.

1. Nader’s popularity is shrinking

Nader got 2.74% of the popular vote in 2000. That's 2,882,955 popular votes.

http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0876793.html

In 2004 he got 240,896 votes out of more than 122,000,000. That's about one-tenth of what he got in 2000.

2. Nader won’t be included on some of the ballots or in the debates.

3. His fund raising ability will be limited.

4. Nader is 74-years-old. That’s younger than Methuselah, but older than John McCain.

Yes, I suppose that in some parallel universe, Ralph Nader can win the presidency of the United States of America. I noticed that you asked if he can.

But since I have seen no pigs flying by when I look out my window, it is not likely in this universe. Ralph Nader has been controversial for years, taking on corporations. I remember the demise of the Chevy Corvair after he pointed out just how unsafe they were. If I remember it, I am sure that General Motors does, too. Big corporations, while they change leadership, still remember.

We'll see how this groundswell of support for Barack Obama stacks up against the corporate sponsorship that has predominated previous presidential elections. It is sad that those with money and power still are "more equal than others" (ala Animal Farm by George Orwell), namely the majority of the American people.

As far as it goes for Nader, though, he might as well find a hobby to replace this running for President thing. It just isn't working.

He stands no chance of winning at all. Zero, nada. His chances of winning are equal to that of someone surviving a wreck in a corvair. w00t.gif laugh.gif All he can do is be a "spoiler" who costs Barack or Hillary the general election. He might put up some Ron Paul like numbers, perhaps cresting at 10% like he claims he's getting in Michigan. If he can do that in one or two battleground states, he could ensure another republican victory. ph34r.gif

He cannot win and the few votes he gets will noot hurt Obama at all.

I heard on the radio of a poll of 30,000 Americans that indicated about 17% would vote for Nader.

Amazing that 17% would vote for a guy whose career was initiated by a complete fraud--his book Unsafe at any Speed. Pitiful. Maybe the polling data is way, way off....

Even if Nader got 51% of the peoples vote, The way the US voting system is rigged Nader will still loose!
Because the REPS&DEMS have a Monopoly. This race is only preparation for the next Prez
race. REPS&DEMS know this and they are counting on Americans giving up on any
third party, because it will take a long term investment for a 3rd party to win.

In 1992 Ross Perot got 19% of the Popular vote but 0% of the Electoral College vote !
B.Clinton got ONLY 43% of the Popular Vote but 70% of the E.C. vote !

So our voting system has proven that :
1) You don't need a majority to win the Presidency.
2) 19% of the voting population gets 0% representation!
3) If you're not a REP or DEMS it is almost statistically impossible to be elected!

Here are a few ways to help "Democracy" in America and fight against the "REP-DEM Monopoly".
1) After your states primary, go re-register as a third party (don't be scarred You can change back)
This will send a clear sign to the REPS or DEMS that you as an American are not happy w/your parties
performance/ work in our Government.

2) On Election day vote late! See if your state has a clear winner, if this is the case and you don't need to support your
candidate or your candidate has no possible chance of winning. VOTE for a third party candidate. (Nader, write in R.Paul etc..)
This will give those candidates support and money to compete against the REPS&DEMS next Prez race. (i.e. If Ron Paul gets a
ton of votes, the REPS&DEMS might think that the Constitution is important to the American Voters! Or if Nader gets a ton of support
the REPS&DEMS will know that Corruption of politicians is unacceptable to American Voters!....)

But as long as you keep voting for the REPS or DEMS that tells them that "The Status Quo" is A OK with you !
Thus you will continue to have the type of bad government we have now !

P.S. If we survived Bush for 8yrs, you not worry at all about giving a third party 4yrs to prove themselves !!!

If Americans don't abandon the REP&DEM Parties at this time in history we truly deserve the corrupt "lesser Evil" that
will continue to make us suffer! (Debt,Resession, War, Political corruption, etc....)

So far I will be voting for Nader, unless Paul runs, then I'll have to see which one has the best chance of breaking the
REP-DEM monopoly. But either guy will be a move in the right direction for America!!!!!!!!!
