I was engaged in a interesting discussion on another board (yes Virginia, there are other boards besides ad.gif about add-ons for the Firefox 3.0 browser.

It occurs to me that there is no real technology forum on America's Debate and I think that's a shame.

What if someone wants to debate the pros and cons of I-pods, Wi-Fi hot spots, cell phone dead spots, or the latest virus that is going to destroy civilization as we know it?

There are some pretty tech savvy people around here and I can't seem to pin items to my Start menu in Vista. Instead of Googling it, maybe somebody here knows what I did wrong and how I can get it right.

Every so often a little housecleaning is a good thing and I think it would be a darn good thing if there were a regular forum where the wise men and woman or just plain cybergeeks can swap information and insight.

Hey, it's gotta be better than debating Barack Obama all the time. ermm.gif

I think this is a good idea. It's a big enough topic area that it could benefit from its own forum, plus, lets face it, we live in a technology dominated world.

I would certainly be open to that idea, placing it it the Casual Conversation Forum. I'm sure Mike would appreciate it as well, since he probably gets flooded with tech question PM's. whistling.gif

Well, we have Science and Technology for debating tech-related issues - such as, say, net neutrality - though its been pretty dormant. Otherwise, stuff like Mac vs. PC discussions tend to end up in Casual Conversation - which is possibly where a discussion of Firefox add-ons would go. A geek-oriented subforum might be an idea there, but I'm not sure there would be enough topics to justify a forum on its own.

I don't know anything about FireFox, so that's not why I voted yes. It has become more difficult to post replies on this forum even as we have been given more options.
It used to be that in order to boldface print, we would put brackets before the sentence or word with a "b" in it, and at the end of the boldfaced word or phrase we would put brackets with a forward slash and a "b". It was easy enough, even though it is probably more time-consuming for those who know their way around this newer process.

Now I find when I am responding to someone whose questions are in boldface, after I control-v to place it in the space, I have to undo the boldface or everything I type after the questions as well as in bold. Then I have to go back and put in the boldface for each question.

Another problem: Sometimes when I encase something in a quotation box, it leaves out the very last line. It's frustrating, and I have to fool with the print until it does come out right. I couldn't even tell you how I finally manage to get the entire material encased in a quotation box.

Yes folks, I am still wading in the kiddie pool here at AD while the rest of you are talking about FireFox! cry.gif But to me, it is still a problem. It used to be a lot easier.

I don't personally need a technology forum, although it would clearly be an attractive option to a lot of members here. I just need help sometimes!

I concur with Wertz that we ALREADY have this forum. It just happens to be called Science AND Technology. Do we really need to get any more specific here?

I find the more specific we get, the less participants there are - as evidenced by the overwhelming popularity of the General Social Issues and the Independent/3rd Party forums (that's sarcasm, in case your meter is broke). wink2.gif

Well, as this forum is called "Comments and Suggestions" that was all I was trying to do.

Science and Technology seems to me to be more related to stories and debates about breakthroughs in said fields, and not so much about computer and Internet-related topics.

How about at least renaming the forum? That's not a criticism. Just another comment and suggestion. flowers.gif

Maybe you could call it the "All We Need Is Ron Paul Technology Forum?" hmmm.gif

Oh heaven help us. Maybe if some of the Paulistinians could help fundraise for ad.gif we could have all sorts of ca-razy forums! laugh.gif

This is the description we are currently using for the Sci & Tech forum, "Discussion and debate about science and technology."

It's pretty generic. If you have any thoughts for rewording that, I'm all ears. Well, eyes. smile.gif Keep in mind the wording needs to be search engine/search engine user friendly. These words help people find ad.gif when they are searching for these types of forums and debates.

I've spent 5 minutes trying to think of the snappiest one-liner for this comment. Awww shucks, NT. You get away with it this time. laugh.gif

I'd participate in whatever forum tech talk is all about.

No NT we don't need this

(and here's why)

Getting technical advice on a non technical board quickly turns into a scarything.

Hey I need some help with my PC. My flibbity floop is borking the tralfaz emulator

That's easy just click Start-->Run then Type CMD... In the box type "format c: /s /u" without the quotes! smile.gif
