I know a lot of Americans like to watch CNN or Fox News, depending on their own political stances, but I think that i trust BBC News 24 more than any of the others. Do you get News 24 in America? What do you think of the various news stations and which one do you habitually patronise?

When I was in Italy, I watched Sky news, but I don't get it or BBC right now.

I tend to flip through all of the channels and stop when my eye is caught. Then I balance what I see against a spectrum of internet news sites.

I have to say i don't think much of Sky news - it seem to me to be over-sensational and dumbed won. I also founf their civerage of the war with Iraq too flippant and jingoistic. To be honest, I am fairly mistrustful of any news network owned by Rupert Murdoch (which obviously includes Fox)

Fox News. They are "fair and balanced".

I also watch CNN and the greatest new network of them all--ESPN.

I watch Fox News but occasionally waltz to CNN

I try to avoid ABCNNBCBS and foxnews like the plauge. if I do watch one ever it is MSNBC. while still a mouthpeice for the system, the are the fairest in my opinion.

I mostly use http://www.whatreallyhappened.com as my source of news in the world.

Here in the far upper left corner of the US, all the radio stations I can get come from Victoria, BC, and Vancouver. I have grown quite fond of the CBC, but online I use the BBC. Both are true public news sources (as opposed to NPR and PBS), and are beholden to no corporate masters.

And Fox News is fair and balanced? Yeah, and hurricanes are a light breeze. Pull the other one! biggrin.gif
ConservPat
Fox News here, I'm not gonna lie to you guys, I watch it cause it's conservative tongue.gif .

At least you kept the quotes!

I tend to avoid televised news, if at all possible. I get the bulk of mine right here on the internet (ABCNews tends to be one of the few network sites I browse - otherwise it's print - like the NYTimes, the India Times, The Observer/Guardian, and the LA Times) or web-specific (like the Drudge Report and Buzzflash). I sometimes listen to Morning Edition and All Things Considered on NPR during drive time - if there's not a decent CD at hand...

When I lived in Ireland, I watched the BBC a fair bit, but preferred ITN's coverage - even RTE's on occasion! I can't get BBC24 here.

Do you not find ITN coverage to be rather too sensationalist - ignoring the actual issues and preferring to go for the tag-line or the emotive 'human interest' story? It always seems to be rather tabloid to me.

I watch Fox more, but that's more for the commentary than for the news. I like The O'Reilly Factor, Hannity & Colmes and other FNC opinion shows. There are a few I like on MSNBC too, like Hardcopy, and Donohue before he was cancelled. Yeah, Donohue is a hard-core liberal but he's totally open about it, and he had some good guests and good conversations with them.

Fox's news coverage I consider as accurate as any on the facts but with a conservative spin, which I find easy to allow for. There is none free of spin so far as I know, so that's about as good as it gets.

But I don't consider ANY televsion to be a primary form of news beyond the headlines, except that they're first on breaking stories. When I want more detail about any news story, I I turn on the computer, not the TV.

If I'm watching television, I tune in to CNN, but normally I get my news by listening to NPR or via the net.

I don't get news from TV. Period. I used to listen to NPR and BBC, but my commute now is too short to bother. I subscribe to the Boston Globe but I don't always read it any more; mostly I use it as a "tip sheet" for things to research further on my own. I do the same with about a dozen weblogs I read daily, all the way across the political spectrum, and places like this. If I see something interesting, I start Googling and hitting my list of established research-tool sites., assuming that nobody's objective and interpolating between the various kinds of loonies. The Internet is my global news network of choice.
